Question about Televison & Video

I bought a Sharp LC37DW99U at the end of November 2007. There is a one year warranty. The image developed a cluster of vertical lines on the left side of the screen in early February 2008. Brandsmart sent a serviceman who took pictures. The pictures were sent to Sharp and they say, based on the cluster of lines when the set is turned on, there must have been physical damage done to the set. There is absolutely no physical/cosmetic damage to the screen or housing and the set has never been moved or jarred since we bought it. They are just trying to get out of the warranty. What do you think?

Im a HP LCD and Plasma TV technician and I know on HP tv's if theres vertical or horizontal lines, this can indicate a bad video controller board.

What i would do first is perform an alignment to see if that fixes the vertical lines. Your TV should have a feature for it to automatcially perform an alignment of the mirrors.

if the alignment doesnt work, I would say your video controller board is bad.

VERTICAL LINES ON SCREEN

So it's no longer under warranty.... right? The problem you describe is control by a 'digital' driver IC (integrated circuit chip) which has apparently developed temperature problems.

Insignia(samsung) 50" plasma Vertical red lines

I would take it back. I know from purchasing an Insignia LCD from them a while back, the TV just died after about 4 or 5 months. They ended up offering me another TV or with store credit. I took the store credit and chose another TV. I also did not have a warranty. I was told since it was Insignia (which is a Best Buy house brand) that replacing it was not a problem. Good luck.

Had this same issue on right side of 52" about 1 inch from side but had 3 vertical lines that disappeared after 40 minutes. Have Samsung LNT5265FX/XXA and about 16 months old. LCD Panel itself had to be replaced to fix it, fortunately had extended service plan

Green vertical line on the right side of screen

Warranty still alive?
Hope so; the problem could be an expensive one.

The screen appearance is controlled by allowing light from a backlight through by turning pixels off and on.
This switching is done by a matrix that turns on vertical and horizontal pixels of the right shade at the right time to produce the image you see.
One of the control elements for the vertical that controls the transmission of green light from the backlight, has died (no longer switching off and on when told) and these are normally a part of the LCD screen assembly itself and not easily replaceable.

I would be talking to Sharp - this shouldn't happen in 6-7 months of use.
