Canon Powershot malfunction

Canon Powershot SD1100 IS
Used it for the first time last nite w/o a problem. removed memory card to download pics to PC, put it back in and turned the camera on. The shutter will not open and diplay reads "no image" Changed card, same result. Attempted to format card according to the users manuel, it did not work....
