Our drum light is on, will not print anything, just makes noise as if to start the job then quits. I opened the unit and took out the toner and cleaned it but do not know what else to do. It is only one year old!

Drum reset procedure on this model is quite simple. Just open front door, hold down the GO button until all lights are on, let go of button then close door. This will reset drum counter to 100%.
Thank You for using Fixya
This is caused by a faulty drum/charging circuit or laser unit.
The drum is positively charged with static electricity and a laser draws the image onto the drum (changing the charge to negative) the toner is positively charged to it will adhere to the negatively charged image which is now on the drum.
your problem is that the drum is either not being positively charged or the laser is charging the whole drum.
There is a corona wire on the drum, remove the drum, sweep the corona wire (there will be a tab that moves left and right) and try it again. next step is to replace the drum. if you dont have a spare drum or one from another printer then it may be more cost effective to buy another printer as drums are quite expensive and it may not even be the problem.
Open the front cover and pull out the toner/drum unit. Press the (blue) lever to eject toner cartridge, the remainder of the unit is the drum unit that needs replacing. DR520 is the type you need. Get it at any office supply store.
1) Turn off printer
2)Turn back on
3) Remove Drum and Toner.
4)Press Go for 1 second(it appears to do nothing)
5)Put Drum and Toner back in.
6)Press Go for 1 second(it appears to do nothing)
Normally clearing the drum count the machine has to be on open front cover as if to change the drum press and hold the button in for about 10 second then release and shut the door. This should reset the count if not please get back to me and I'll check the service manual to see if anything in that.
