Question about Casio Exilim EX-Z40 Digital Camera
When battery is on charger it only flashes. Camera will not turn on.
This happened to me once before i had to put the battery in my freezer for about 45 minutes then try to charge, it worked, with some liion batts they develop memories and if remain uncharged for an extended period refuse to charge

I had the same problem. It IS the battery - if the red light flashes, it is telling you that it won't charge. If the red light stays solid red, it is charging. Green - charging complete.

What model of camera? You will probably need to purchase different battery.

SOURCE: battery charger
I just bought this camera as an "Open Box" special a few days ago. It would not charged (flashing red),I tried some of the steps on here. I tried replugging the unit in and out many times. This did nothing.
I took an LG phone charger and plugged it directly into the camera for a few seconds and plugged it in the charger and it worked!
I had to push the charger in kinda hard to the camera and it came on and said low battery and I held it for a few more seconds.

SOURCE: Casio Exilim Battery NP-20 is
Phone Casio Support and they will give you a free battery. I did and I got one in the mail a week later.
On their site for Canada:
"Blinking red light when charging battery indicates an issue with the battery - Please contact 1-800-435-7732."

I found this while trying to solve my exact same problem.. It worked for me after about 7 times. Some other people on the site said it worked for them after 20 times. Good luck!
My NP 20 gave me the flashing red light of death and I got Casio to replace it. Then I had the same problem with my second NP 20 so I dug around for a way to fix it and I found the following advice on a site called FixYa. It worked instantly and I didn't risk ruining my battery.
I had the same problem as this.
what i did was...
i kept putting the battery on the charger then took it off as soon as the red light came on.
i did this about 6 times.
doing this puts a bit of charge in the battery each time before the charger starts to flash.
after the battery as got enough charge in it it can start to charge.
hope this helps.

I did the same thing as Hartwe1l, although I didn't tilt it up so high. I just held the battery tight against the contacts and lifted it a little bit, got a steady red light, held it there for a minute, and presto...continuous red light. I'm assuming it's charging...so far, so good! Thanks hartwe1l.
