Question about Washing Machines

2 Answers

Hi.. hope you can help me.. I have a year old Zanussi ZWF1221W - my dear daughter put in a wash without emptying her pockets and something (a hairgrip or bra support) is now stuck between the drum and the drum casing. I stopped the cycle as soon as I heard the noise so the offending object has not had time to work it's way through to the pump. If I handspin the drum, I can hear the object, either scraping or screeching against the drum casing. How do I get into this area to remove it? Looking forward to your reply, and so hoping I can fix this myself. Thank you, Carrie

Thank you both for your quick response - think will have to get a mechanically minded friend round for this one, but again, thank you!

Have the same problem as zanussi washer, but it is a whirl duet sport frontloader. I took the front gasket off but it doesn't let me in between the drum to get out the offending object that is scraping. What is the easiest way that this can be taken apart to get the object out. I haven't run the machine since this happened on the last load. It spins freely counter clockwise, but sticks when spun clockwise.

Hi Hettyboddy,

I found this how to (below) on drum bearing replacement for your specific Zanussi washer and edited it to just reflect the drum removal part.

Power off, remove covers. Disconnect drive belt, remove drive pulley. Remove heater, thermostat and pressure switch. Check if drum splits at front, rear or the middle. If at front or middle, drum will prob. need removal from machine. This involves dismantling the suspension and damping system and removal of door seal and concrete weights. Undo the drum fixing system - either a clamping ring or a series of peripheral bolts and split the drum.If the drum splits at the rear, removal from machine probably not required. Remove the clamping system and pull off the rear plate. Seal and bearings will come away with the plate. Refitting is, as they say, a reversal of the above process. You do need to have significant mechanical skills. If you're the type of guy/gal who works on their car, it would be no problem, if you're a novice, I'd pass.

I wouldn't think that the offending object would make it to the pump, but would probably want it out myself as that is a very nice washer (highly rated). and the idea of having something rattling around in it would be annoying to say the least.

I hope this helps and Good luck.

That was my first impression too, until I researched Her make and model to find out it's a front loader (no agitator). Great how to on the agitator removal though.

It sounds like it's actually stuck between the bottom of the agitator and the basket (assuming you've got an agitator). The top of the agitator is usually for bleach or maybe it's fabric softener. Pop off the top (like the lid off of a can) and that should expose a nut or bolt in the center of the agitator. Remove this bolt (make note of how tight it was just after you've broken it free) and lift to remove the agitator. Remove any foreign objects and feel free to clean up anything else down there. Replace the agitator and tighten the bolt approx as tight as it was when you removed it (be careful not to overtighten). Snap on the top of the agitator and you should be good to go.

Zanussi zwf1221w how to remove complete soap dispenser unit

Hi there
Try opening the dispenser fully, put your better hand inside and feel for a knob that you can push, and the dispenser comes out..
The knob can also be on the bottom of the dispenser.
If you do not find those knobs, just take a brush for washing up and some warm water in a bowl and clean the dispencer the old fashioned way.
Good luck

Hope I can help. When you press the start button is there a buzzing coming from down by the filter if so Check that there is not something stuck in the filter. You will have to be careful depending on how much water is left in the drum so put some towels down and undo filter slowly or get the machine near a door then release filter out onto a door step.when drained shine a torch up inside filter and see if the little plastic blade on pump can turn but do not try and force it,if you do find anything in there then try it again and check the pockets. If there is still a fault you will have to call out your Engineer.

Good Luck

HI, My zanussi zwf1221w Washing Machine doesn't heat the water. I have replaced the heating element but this has hasn't solved the problem. Can Anyone help??

You need to check to see if you are gettring a supply to the element when it is at the heating stage, you will need a meter to do this.
If no supply, then could be a faulty thermostat or thermistor, other wise it could be a faulty programmer or control unit.
Hope this helps
