MFC3820CN - Error 33 - "Carriage Travel Error"

H E E E L P;
Contacted Brother which was a waste of time. The unit won't print, not even a test sheet. Local repair shop wants $75.00 plus cost of parts(s). Has anyone had this problem? The ink cartriges are full, the carriage is movable but won't print.
Appreciate all help.
