Question about Zanussi ZX99 / 5 Bottom Freezer Refrigerator

1 Answer

Bulbs and bottom pcb blew, replaced but still not working

The fridge blew both bulbs, and tripped the main fuse for the ring mains, replaced the bulbs and reset the fuse. fridge still not working, checked the socket and replaced the plug fuse, still not working, checked the power control board at the bottom rear and found that had also blown, replaced that too using the serial number to get the right part, but this has not solved the problem either, ive check the top board that has the led's and temp dials on but that looks to be ok.

is there anything else i need to check or that could be the cause of fridge/freezer not working?

thanks

that sounds like it could be the cause, can you tell me where to find this capacitor?

The start and run capacitors of the compressor can go short circuit and cause a big spike that can blow the bulbs, trip fuse etc. Inspect the capacitors for splits etc, you may well find that the start cap has blown and so there will not be enough current to get the compressor running.

the cap / caps will either normally be bolted to the side of the compressor or in their own box + maybe with a relay in there as well, if the relay is not in a box then will be attached to the compressor. The relay may be burnt out and also could be inoperable and or stuck in one position either start or run. If you follow the main power wire from the compressor ir should lead you to the capacitors. If they are ok you could try putting a meter accross the compressor windings to see if they have gone open circuit also.

An Amana fridge SRD520TW has started tripping the house's main circuit board.

The start capacitor on the compressor may have failed. There is a chance that a defrost heater element has shorted to a metal part of the fridge.

I HAVE A JENNAIR JS42CSDBDA FRIDGE THAT WENT DEAD NO POWER,NO LIGHTS CHECKED OUTLET AND FOUND POWER GOING TO FRIDGE BUT NOTHING. IT ACTS AS IF IT'S NOT EVEN PLUGGED IN.

No one turned off your power switch up above the refrigerator, I trust. So, either your power supply or your main PCB is blown. Check the fuse on the main PCB (up on top of your refrigerator in the compressor area). The fuse will be right next to that round, black piezo electric speaker on the main PCB board as shown here:

52f3d145-54c2-4885-b0b7-dceebc8d9c83.jpg
If that's not it, then check to see if your power supply board is supplying power by measuring the voltage on JP11 of the Main PCB. You should see 26 vdc between pin 3 (GND) and pin 1. And, you should see 12 vdc between pin 3 (GND) and pin 2.

If you don't get those voltages, then you might have a bad Power Supply Board. It looks like this:

Also of note, your 120vac going into the Main PCB board comes in on JP8, pin 1 (WHT) and pin 5 (RED).

I don't know if you will be able to see the larger image of the schematic, or if Fixya will just give you a thumbnail, but I'll try to post it here, anyway:

Well, good luck and let me know if you need any more assistance.

Light bulb burned out

Hi,

Did you have a hinge kit recently replaced? If so call them back they missed something. If not, look into the light circuit a if it goes to ground this light issue would happen. Most of these issues I found in the upper section behind the upper grills. I hope this helps

Inside top of refrigerator hot light don't turn off.

There is a service bulletin related to this, dealing with deformation / melting of the lamp cover. The fix is to change the lamp wire harness to one that now has a thermal protector incorporated in it (part number 6621JK2003B) along with changing the main PCB board to one that uses a larger relay for this function (part number 6871JB1423N).

In case you want or need to replace the following,
The lamp cover is part number 3110JA1096A and the lamp holder is part number 3034JA1009A

I tried to cut and paste a few photo's, but was unsuccessful. Sorry. Make sure to test that fans and light switches work after part changes.

Amana neither fridge nor freezer getting cold enough

the defrost system has failed. to get it working temporarily, take the back panel off inside the freezer. melt ice off with a hairdryer.
after that, fault can be in several areas - defrost heater, thermal fuse or the main pcb
