Yes. right from boot up, when the acer screen shows it is dimmed then the OS loads up normally but noting shows on the screen. When I press fn-f6 my desktop appears briefly sometimes for two seconds sometimes for a minute and then goes black again. I have used a different monitor and everything is fine. All the settings via the control panel are fine. People are saying it is the backlight LED that is faulty. If that is true what can I do about it? Thanks

Hi, Does it do this in any part of when loading up for example in bios and in main windows etc. Have you checked graphics card or onboard graphics drivers but reistalling, tried a different monitor, changed the keyboard. Check the keyboard setting aswell and display settig in control panel and let me know the outcome. Thanks

The file is an Nvidia Raid driver. You may have to copy the raid drivers to a floppy drive and install them via F6 during installation.

My srceen goes Blank

Hi,

first try booting the laptop and pressing the Fn key with the numerical ( numbered key ) that has a picture of 2 screens on it. This is for booting to an external monitor. you could also try adding an external ( pc monitor ) this will eliminate any motherboard Faults.

Secondly, the graphics chip driver may be corrupt or not installed correctly. if you have a restore cd, you could try booting the laptop, with the cd in the drive.

you can then try, to see if the settings in the bios are all correct, by booting/starting the laptop and pressing esc or F2 or delete immediately as the laptop starts. ** Be-Careful** what you adjust.
My suggestion is to look for. ** default settings tab** or load setup defaults.

these are the obvious things to try, before assuming that you have a faulty graphics chip or motherboard fault.

I have an ACER Travelmate 230 notebook. The system is working but the monitor does not display anything. I can use the laptop with an external monitor successfully. Is this the end for my laptop?

So after a power up we can deduct that its not a hard drive problem because you have managed to successfully attach an external LCD screen to the system.

It may not nessacarily be the end , laptops are mobile machines and time to time plugs and sockets don't hold their devices in place and in your case most probably one of the two connectors on your laptops LCD screen.

It could possibly be one of these 3 things

1. The ribbon connector which carry's the video signal to your LCD screen has become dislodged you will need to open up your laptop and check this and make sure its seated in its interface properly. This is usually located in the spine of the laptop

2. The power connector on the LCD screen itself which is a small black 3 pronged plug has become loose also open up your laptop and check this

3. when the computer has had time to boot press the fn + F6 on your keyboard , you may have to press this a few times but this is the manual LCD screen off and on button

Tell me how this goes

Cheers
