Question about Samsung HP-T5064 50 in. Plasma HDTV

1 Answer

New Samsung Plasma HDTV

We just bought a new 50 inch HDTV by Samsung. We have a cable box and have HDTV on the set. When displaying the guide, there are two black bars on the sides of the screen. I know this is normal for displaying HDTV screens, but now when the display is full screen (no black bars) the bars appear to still be there. The tv shows a full screen, but you can see where the bars were previously displayed by a fainter color. Even when we switch to AVI to watch a DVD there still appears to be fainter color on the sides of the tv. Any tips?

That is what is called BURN IN or as the manufactures call it "IMAGE RETENTION". Basicly what this means it that you have been putting more hours on the part that is darker the smaller part, or the 4x3 picture or the square part. And, basicly the part that appears to be lighter is "LESS" worn out than the other part of the plasma tv. There is no fix for the problem, But if you go into the menu and select "BURN-IN" OR "Pattern sweep" or WHITE Screen than you will see exactly what i mean. Now, you can keep it on this pattern overnight if you would like, but i suspect it will not cure the problem, but lessen the effects of it. But keep in mind, you are reducing the life of the complete panel when you do this. Not that it is bad to do this. If you have anymore questions don't hesitate to ask anymore questions. The better fix is to Switch over to the "Dish Network and than you can format the screen on any channel in any mode. Superior product to cable. Have a great day. And watch out for the snow storm coming. GURU JAY

Have a new 50" Samsung Plasma and new cable box/dvr. Set up the TV for 1080i, but it will change that setting from channel to channel. Some channels are way off-center, almost as though it thinks it is...

I'm sure you enjoy your Samsung. It's a very good set. Unfortunately the set isn't causing the change in format from one broadcast to another. We are in a transitional stage right now where some programs were made in 16/9 and others in 4/3. Also, some are analog(480) some are digital(720) and some are hd(1080). In order for every program to fit your screen it has to go through the original format matching the broadcasters and the service providers output before even getting to your house. Just a few years ago there were many more formatting screen size issues but now it's getting closer to 75-85 percent of all programming having been either resized or reformatted for the 16/9 sets. Soon it will all fit properly. Hope this helps, Russmann.

Samsung 50 in. HPS5033X/XAA colored lines running vertically and won't go away.

How wide are the lines. Do they change width? Where on the screen are they located?Connections on the c boards at the bottom to the panel flex cables or bad c board itself can cause 2 inch wide verticle bar. Before touching these connectors be sure power supply is disconnected from the 2 sustain boards on the sides. If you don't there will be an arc that will destroy the flex cable thus you will have to replace the panel. If C boards or connections don't fix it the replace the plasma panel. If the lines are thin lines then panel is likely bad. Contact Panasonic even if out of warr they may help.

Hooked up cable box, wii box and dvd player to new lg 50 inch 720p plasma tv... all external components work, however, dvds and wii only show in black and white - no color...

Connect the Wii and the DVD player to different ports on the TV to and any other device to the port in which the Wii and the DVD player were connected to check if the issue is with the port.

If other devices also display in black and white after connecting them to the port to which the Wii and the DVD player were originally connected then the ports require servicing.

I can help you with your issue ,
If the line is present on all inputs, and effects the TV menu you most likely need a new screen.

You will have to go to the setup on the LG50P.... and get to the picture resolution, For example your monitor settings should have the ablitiy to set up the 4:1 or 16:9 aspect ratio. The best is to set this at automatic ... usually the case on a 1080i or 1080p

Displays weak or no signal

To get any HDTV to work this is what you have to do;
CHANNEL section
1) Connect your antenna cable which you have done.
2) Go into the menu to the source option and select AIR/ANTENNA since you are using an antenna.
3) In the menu you will have to SCAN in the stations. This auto program will find all available stations.
Now you can watch tv by selecting the station you want.
The new generation of HDTV is different from the old analog sets. These have to be set up to work.
Exact information can be found in your Users Manual.
