Question about Computers & Internet

A D-Link to SMC Wireless Internet Sharing...

I got a D-LINK RANGEBOOSTER G? USB ADAPTER WUA-2340 and I'm trying to get it to connect to my SMC8014W-G Broadband Wireless Gateway.

My D-LINK is on my Win 2k computer and the SMC is on Windows Vista.

After following the D-Link instructions. Scanning revealed 2-3 wireless networks... 1 called 'MyPlace' 1-2 called 'Default'.

'MyPlace' requires a passkey. I'm unaware of my SMC having one so I believe it's someone else's network.

All Networks get below 35% connectivity. So I assume these are far away... My D-Link/SMC is 2 rooms apart (25meters est.) at most?

Any tips for what I do to get this to work? Steps I missed? (Internet/file sharing)

Hi dear

try this

  1. Before you attempt to use any Wi-Fi network, find out what the SSID, Channel, Mode and WEP key are. Some Wi-Fi locations do not require a WEP key. Many Wi-Fi providers have this information on their web site or when you purchase access you will be provided the information.
  2. Ensure you have a firewall program installed and running. This will protect your data.
  3. Start up your laptop and once booted, look for the Wi-Fi network icon in the bottom right of the screen.
  4. Click on the Wifi Connection icon on bottom right of screen and you should see a window that indicates connection, strength and duration. Click on the Properties tab.

  5. A D-Link to SMC Wireless Internet Sharing... - wirelessnetworkscreenbl.jpg

  6. The next window will show the type of networking card installed. Click on the Wireless Networks tab.

  7. 02ee437.jpg

  8. Once the Wireless Network Connection Properties window is open you will have two options depending on how you set up your laptop.
    • If you do not see any networks listed in Preferred or Available networks, you will have to manually add the SSID. Click on Add. You will have to enter the SSID and WEP key (if required). Click OK and you should then see the network you just added in the AvaA D-Link to SMC Wireless Internet Sharing... - 4d25eb5.jpgworks box.

    • If you see the correct SSID showing in the Available Networks, then you need to click oA D-Link to SMC Wireless Internet Sharing... - 92752af.jpg in order to enter the WEP key if that is required.

    92752af.jpg

  9. In the next window, enter the SSID for the Wi-Fi network you want to access. Make sure you do not have CAPS lock or NUM lock while entering the information. If a network key is required, click on "Data Encryption and then enter the Network key you have been provided with. Again make sure you do not have CAPS or NUM lock on. Click OK wA D-Link to SMC Wireless Internet Sharing... - fccfda9.jpgd. If you have entered the key incorrectly a message will pop up and you will need to re-enter the key.

  10. fccfda9.jpg

  11. Next go to Start - A D-Link to SMC Wireless Internet Sharing... - 34b0a7b.jpgt says Connect To click on that and you should see choices like in the graphic below. Click on Wireless Network Connection and it should work.

There are occasions when the connection doesn't work, in these cases check your firewall software and make sure it allows you to connect to the Wi-Fi network. To check this, disable your firewall software and check the connection again. If you can connect with the firewall program disabled, you change your settings. If your firewall program is not the problem check the SSID and WEP key information that you entered. Both of these are case sensitive. If you had obtained SSID information from the Internet, check with someone in the establishment to see if the SSID has been changed.

oke post in me back

i hope this usefull for you

thanks

My d-link WUA-2340 is only running on 54mbps

What router are you using?
Most routers sold until recently have been 802.11b/g (54mbps) routers, it must be 802.11b/g/n to run at 108mbps.
The adapter will self adjust to the older standard if it cannot detect if the faster standard is available.

The adapter doesnt blink, and wireless adapter is not found.

If it doesn't blink:
- try to uninstall it completely
- remove the adapter from the USB port
- install the software again
- leave the WUA-2340 out of the computer's USB port until you have installed the software
- when the installation routine tells you then insert the adapter into the USB port
- you follow the instructions from there.
It should work if you do it that way.
