Verticle line down left side of page

I just purchased this printer because my Brother was leaving a verticle line down the page. Now this Lexmark is doing the same. The only happens with the automatic feeder. I'm not sure if I have done something by pulling jammed pages out or what the problem could be and how to solve it.

This is NOT an INK JET printer..
This is a LASER PRINTER.. there are no PRINT Heads
you will find no menu to clean the print heads.

there is a charge, a drum, devloper, transfer etc etc..

if you get a line, and it only happens when you use the DOC Feeder.
lift the top up, you will see the glass,
there is a little **** glass which the paper passes over when using the Doc Feeder,
That little **** glass has something on it (i.e. funk, dirt, white out)
clean that **** glass with a lint free cloth and a touch of alcohol.
Look at it really good if you see anything on it Clean it again..

Printers tend to have this problem if for some reason dirt gets trapped under the print heads. A standard head cleaning is the best solution, which can be found in the menu.

My brother printer is leaving a large bold black line across the page

Across the page means a light burnt drum. The drum units are light sensitive and if they have been left in the sunlight for too long the photosensitive film has been damaged. The only thing to do is replace the damaged drum unit. If it was down the page then that will be a different fault and easily repaired.

3 vertical dashed lines down every page

Hi there, I would assume that you are speaking about a laser printer, if this is the case you would have to take the printer in for a service and ask them to clean the primary and secondary corona wires.

A dirt corona wire can cause a vertical lines down the print job cause that part of the OPC drum is not being charged by the charge corona.
Could also be a dirty drum.

Hope this helps. :)
Please let me know.

Unwanted verticle line on fax copies

Most likely a fax has been sent or a page copied with 'white out' (Liquid Paper), still wet on the page. As the page feeds over the scanner, (a narrow strip of glass that runs across the width of the page along the feed path) the wet liquid paper comes off on the glass as a thin line and dries. Thereafter, when copying, scanning or sending a fax, the scanner light does not go through the liquid paper streak and the result when printed is a thin vertical line that runs the full length of the page. If this is the cause you will also find that faxes you send to other people will also have this line (although faxes you receive are not affected by this problem with your machine).

To fix the problem: follow the path that the paper travels when sending a fax or making a copy, until you find the scanner (narrow glass strip). Take a clean, soft cloth and a small amount of methylated spirit (or white spirit) and remove the now dried Liquid Paper from the glass. Clean the whole strip ensuring that the glass is left clean and dry.

Lexmark laser printer leaving a white streak 2-3

take a q-tip and clean the scanner window. this is located in a 3/16' opening on the roof of the printer cavity it will be about 8inchs long. pull the toner cartridge and feel with your fingers on the roof of the cavity this will be located above the transfer roller slightly towards the front of the printer. white lines like this mean the laser is being blocked usually by a bit of toner or other dirt of some kind
