HP DeskJet 940c InkJet Printer Problem

The cartridge light binks & the printer is not functional. Both cartridges are new.

Wiped off the contacts, replaced both cartridges, unplugged/plugged and still red-flashing with cartridges pointing at the far right-hand side "dead face" when the lid is opened.

I have the same problem as listed above. I bought two new ink cartridges, installed them without touching the contacts (and made sure the blue tape was off of them before putting them in). The cartridges are securely in their respective trays, and I'm getting the blinking orange light of doom. I've read through some "help" threads, and have tried the following to no avail:

    1) Unplugged the printer from my CPU, and re-plugged
    2) Unplugged my printer from the power strip, waited 10+ seconds, and plugged it back in
    3) Rebooted my computer completely after waiting 30 seconds from the time it shut down to the time I restarted
    4) "Cleaned" the cartridge heads with a non-shredding cotton swab using distilled water
    5) Checked my printer drivers and port to make sure that they were up to date and configured properly
    6) Attempted to print straight from the command prompt
    7) Attempted to force a "test print" page straight from the computer

I know that the cartridges aren't clogged straight from the manufacturer (which has happened to me before) since I was getting ink smears on the swab, so the issue isn't there. I'm about ready to fix the problem with a 16-lb sledgehammer a-la office space.

If anyone has any other in-depth possible solutions, please let us know.

I just installed new ink cartridges and now my left light is blinking and nothing will print. I have tried everything. Is there a solution?

I have the same problem. I contacted HP Tech support. Who walked me through several steps (unplug printer, open printer top, re-install new cartridge, made sure it was right cartridge). However, it did not work. He insisted that the cartridges I were installing were defective (although I put in 4 new cartridges out of the box). I have no solution although I tryed about everything.

Sorry to state the obvious, but you never know. Did the blue tape covering the head and contacts get removed from the cartridges?

I have an hp deskjet 940c. I don't know if this is the same model as deskjet inkjet. Anyway what light is on or off on the front when a new ink cartridge(s) is needed?

For the HP 940c, there is only one light to indicate a possible low ink cartridge. The LED above the cartridge symbol (the only one without a button) will flash. (Note: this LED is the second from the left.) When you see the error code, open the printer's top cover. If the error is a low ink issue, the LED will stop blinking.

With the cover open, the cartridge carrier will move until the yellow arrow lines up with an icon on the printer itself. These five icons are in order from left to right (as you look at the cartridges) : tri-color ink cartridge problem, black ink cartridge problem, tri-color ink low, black ink low and cartridges OK. If both cartridges are low, replace the one indicated by the arrow. Then the cartridge carrier will move to indicate the other cartridge is low. (If only one has a problem, after you replace it, the carrier will move to the cartridge OK symbol.)

If HP offers the full-feature software for your OS, then install the software. Use the HP Deskjet Toolbox to get exactly which cartridge needs to be replaced without needing to be ready to replace both (or to monitor your ink level (approximate ink level)).

The manual for the Deskjet 940c is available as a PDF from HP: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/DocumentIndex.jsp?contentType=SupportManual&lang=en&cc=us&docIndexId=64179&taskId=125&prodTypeId=18972&prodSeriesId=35985 .

I hope this helps.

Hi! I have a huge problem with my hp deskjet 940c. It won't print colors - only pink! I have bought two new print cartridges, but it's still no good. The black one is okay. Can you help me?

The issue here is that Most HP printers after a certain amount of years of use have that issue, mine was with the black cartridge so i bought a new one from best buy for about 30 bucks not bad for a decent all in one printer

the moving ink frame is probably pointing to a symbol such as replace color ink( three dots on ink cartridge picture). Replace color ink. You are probably printing your black and white documents with colored ink--always select black or greyscale.

How do you check the ink levels of the cartridges on a hp deskjet 940c

Hi,
If the ink level is low in a print cartridge, the Print Cartridge Status light stops flashing when the printer’s top cover is opened. When you open the panel the ink cartridges slide to the center , as far as checking the ink level find and right click on the printer icon, click properties, and find ink cartridges and ink levels.
Thanks
Shereena.

My HP 940C only prints in shades of red. I replaced with new HP 15 & 78 Cartridges, still have same problem!

Some HP ink refills have the exact same product number but the electrical contact tips on the back of the cartridge are not the same configuration, resulting in red ink only being printed. One example is the DeskJet color ink cartridge C1823D having multiple configurations.Find a printer just like yours that's working properly and compare the contact tips if possible. HP tech help is a joke on this one. Good luck!

Third light from the right keeps blinking printer wont print Hp 940c

I had the same problem and the following worked for me: I used a cotton swab with alcohol to clean contact points (copper colored dots) on the back of the ink cartridges themselves. I also gently cleaned the brass-colored pins in the cartridge slots. Hope this solves your problem.
