I have an Acer Aspire 5000 only 2 years old. Last week while I was working the screen saver appeared but when trying to get back to normal working mood it just broke down. Nothing appeared on the screen. I have restarted the computer several times but nothing appears on the screen. I have connected the laptop to an external monitor and nothing appeared on this one either. I should mention that no smoke, unusual noise or any other kinds of failure appeared. It just slowly shut down during working.
I would really appreciate a quick answer on hold to solve this problem and what it might be.

Re: failure to work
Hello Ruxi, The problem could be viral in nature. Are you running an Anti Virus application, and if so are it's virus definitions up to date? Do you hear any sounds (through your speakers, or the hard drive spinning) when you re boot the computer? And what do you mean by "it just broke down"? Have you tried to enter your BIOS or boot to "Safe Mode" on boot or do you not even see anything on the screen at all ever now? You can try the above if you haven't already, and let us know what you find. We'll be checking on this, and Good luck.

Great presentation of your problem. One thing I would check is the screen saver. You say as long as you use the computer it looks normal. Look at your screen saver settings to see if the lined appearing coincide with the screen saver time. With computer parts, failure on a periodic basis (based on time) usually indicated a heat problem. This does not appear to be the problem in your case, as you say you can use the computer for an extended period without a problem. This is why I was suggesting a screen saver problem. You might even try a different screen saver just to test this. Possibly the part of windows that controls the screen saver (and don't ask me where that is, 'cause I haven't a clue) is corrupt.
first refer to the motherboard's manual and see the max. RAM support....
then go to system properties | advanced tab | start up and recovery | go to settings
under system failure....uncheck automatically restart
then when the blue screen appears....note down the error message and error code....
post the message and code to me...
this might ease your problem a little bit....
If it is still in warranty, as Acer has a one year warranty, you can take it to your local Best Buy for repairs, you will need your receipt though.
You can go and check to see if your laptop is still in warranty by going to Acre's website and select support, www.acer.com.
