Minn-Kota Maxxum 80 Problem wwah2530376

Right out of the box I had problems with my Minn-Kota Maxxum 80 trolling motor. It has a dead spot in the reostat. I have to turn the handle back and forth to get it to make contact. I called Minn-Kota and was told to take my motor to John Swallows in cleveland Tn. which is 70 miles away, one way. He looked at it while I was there and said he would order a new board for it the next morning. I called back in a week and he said he didn't have the part in yet. (BTW this is warranty work) I told him I would call Minn-Kota the next morning and find out why they hadn't sent him the part, he said that won't be necessary that he hadn't ordered the part yet, he was waiting to order a bunch of parts at one time. I got in touch with Minn-Kota and was told he still hadn't ordered the part but they would call him and find out about my motor. It has now been three weeks and no word yet on my motor, I have written the company 2 times trying to get a new replacement for my motor and I am not getting anywhere. I believe there is a problem with all of these motors and they don't have a fix yet. Is there any recourse about getting another trolling motor or getting my money back on this one? My contact information is below, thanks ahead of time for your time and effort.

I have a 24 Volt Minn Kota Powerdrive with Copilot attached. When I plug the motor in it begins to turn 360 degree circles. No idea what to even try on this one. Batteries are fully charged.

VONNY MY MOTOR DOES THE SAME THING AND I FOUND THAT THE DUST OF THE MAGNETS IN THE HEAD WAS CAUSING THE MOTOR TO STICK I CLEANED INSIDE WITH ELECTRICAL CLEANER AND IT STARTED TO WORK FINE BUT YOU MAY HAVE SOMETHING ELSE GOING ON AND ALSO MAY SURE YOU ARE NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY IF YOU JUST GOT THE BOAT

Your armature has a dead spot. Either replace it or get a generator rebuild shop to test it on a growler, and fix the open winding. You can do it if you ohm between ajacent brush blocks and re-stake the wire clamp on any that ohm over 1 ohm. You MIGHT only have a dirty commutator which can be solved with crocus cloth.

I had the same problems with my 70lb, my motor just quit while on the lake, took it to a minn kota service repair shop. I had two issues. One was the little magnet under the button on the foot pedal got recessed to far down, the tech told me if it happened again pop the button off and pull the magnet up some. Simple fix. I took it home put it back on the boat and nothing just a slight ticking noise heard from the pedal with no prop movement. So I thought maybe somethin was wrong with one of my batteries. Unhooked everything, tested both of them, all good. Even though there was hardly any corrosion, I clean everything, hooked it up and "WALLA"! Power! Problem solved, for now. Waitng to test again out on the lake

Check for a blown fuse and check plug with a volt meter just to be sure its not the trolling motor itself.

Built in transducer is not picking up/transferring depth to graph

I havew a Minn Kota trolling motor on a Z21 Ranger. Minn Kota has a built in (puck type) transducer on the motor. I have a lowrance 135x on the front. The lowrance will read the temp but will blink the depth. I switched out the depth finder with another 135x with the same results. I have a 522c gps unit networked together and mounted on the console that works fine. Any suggestions on the problem with the 135x?

Minn Kota tolling motor

Reverse the polarity on the trolling motor by taking the trolling motor apart and turning ithe motor housingt 180 degrees and bolt it back up. The polarity will be straight then. I did the same thing when I pulled the armature back in.
