Washer wont run but is trying to

When i start the washer it makes a humming sound, and smells like electrical burning. If I spin the tub a few times it will start, but when the next cycle is supposed to start it will do the same thing. I then have to turn the tub to get it to do each cycle.

Something is probably binding. Check the belts and bearings underneath or by removing the back if possible. There could be something stuck around the rim of the tub. Does it work fine when it's empty? Could also be that the motor is getting near the end of it's life. The motor should not be too hard to replace and it shouldn't cost too much.

Good Luck!

I think it is your motor that is the problem.. It must be the coils inside the motor that have got affected and that is why the noises and the turning prob... Tell a technician to come and remove the motor and get it repaired or get a new motor....

Check the motor for that, there may be smoething stuck ther. for the humming sound, when did this started happening? for the smell, check for frounded wire. for repeating each cycle, try to check for the housing if its still operational because the burnt smell and the cycle repeating is linked.

The drive motor which spins the drum is connected to the drum by a rubber belt. Sounds like the belt is burned through. Make sure you can spin the inside tub by hand to verify that the tub can turn freely before you replace the belt. The hum is from the drive motor just spinning freely.

Washing machine has smell (burning) and doesnt spin or drain tub.

Sounds like the belt may need to be changed. it eh pulley are spinning but the belt is not, nothing will spin and the friction of the pulley against the belt will cause a burning rubber smell

It made a quite hum during the spin cycle, instead of the normal (much louder) spinning sound. When I turned it off I noticed it had a rubber/electric burning smell.

If it's a squealing sound, your belt is probably bad. If it's a humming noise with those smells you listed, it might be your transmission going bad.

Kenmore direct drive washer - not spinning

While it could be the tranmission, that is a fairly rugged part (although not impossible). More often, you have bad contacts in your timer. These will short together and cause the machine to try and do multiple things at once, thus causing the burning smell. You didn't list a model number, but for most of the Kenmore washers, you can open the console (two phiilips screws on the front or back towards the bottom) to access the timer. Most timers are able to be opened to verify visably black or silver marks on the normally brass colored contacts.

Washer wont run but is trying to

Sounds like the motor or capacitor (next to the motor), the capacitor helps the motor to start, once running a switch inside the motor disconnects the capacitor from circuit.

The transmission might have locked up causing the motor to overheat.
