I am having the same problem as Steve711.

So far, I realized that this isn't happening with color ink, and I went through a few head refreshings and nozzle checks, but I'm still having this issue.

Steve711, did the solutions offered so far correct your issue? Thanks.

Black Ink not printing at all

  • Anonymous Jul 18, 2008

it seems like the paper doesnt touch think because its consistently in the same spots and its not an entire line but every other line and 1/2. The ink has a gradiant of darknes from the blank spots to the printed spots on the text. is there a roller or something that is miss aligned. I have gone threw 3 brand new ink cartridges trying to fix it and I have cleaned the nozels and everything else countless times.

The first suggested solution by the "wiz" is rediculous. If you had an owners manual it would tell you to do this.
What you really have to do is take the printer head off and GENTLY scrape the gunk off of it. Paper fibers build up on it.
-Open lid
-lift up on gray tab thing that is where you put the tink tanks in.
-pull out the black cartridge that holds all the ink tanks in place and look at the bottom.
-there is 5 small silver slits that color ink comes out and a long one for black ink.
-there maybe gunk all over the bottom - clean it off and you can use a folded piece of paper or gently with a pen cap.
-That gunk is filled with ink so be careful and do it over some paper towel.
-Place the blackcartridge (the printerhead) back in and use gary tab thing to close it.
-recheck to make sure the ink tanks are locked in
close the lid.
-then clean nozzle accesed through the printer "properties"
-Wont fix but makes it better. You need to get a new print head ($50) or try Canon Printhead Repair Kit ($10) or most effective, get a new printer ($50 without all of that stuff you still dont use)

I have a Canon PIXMA MP250, and it's printing black and faded lines alternatively. (one line black, one line faded black...), sometimes involve blue too.. Anyone can help?

First, are you running low on those ink colors? If not, possibly print cartridges need cleaning. If printer has separate print heads, they made need cleaning.
Lastly, print head(s) may need replacement.

How to check the ink level onC4480 printer

To check the ink levels from the HP Photosmart Software
1. In the HP Solution Center, click Settings, point to Print Settings, and then click Printer Toolbox.
NOTE: You can also open the Printer Toolbox from the Print Properties dialog box. In the Print Properties dialog box, click the Features tab, and then click the Printer Services button.
The Printer Toolbox appears.
2. Click the Estimated Ink Level tab.
The estimated ink levels for the print cartridges appear.

Or

Print a self-test report
1. Load A4 unused plain white paper into the input tray.
2. Press and hold the Cancel button and then press the Start Copy Color button.
The product prints a self-test report, which might indicate the source of the printing problem.
3. Make sure the test patterns show a complete grid and the thick color lines are complete.
• If more than a few lines in a pattern are broken, this might indicate a problem with the nozzles. You might need to clean the print cartridges.
• If the black line is missing, faded, streaked, or shows lines, this might indicate a problem with the black or photo print cartridge in the right slot.
• If any of the color lines are missing, faded, streaked, or show lines, this might indicate a problem with the tri-color print cartridge in the left slot.

All colours and black print faded. Black is a

ANSER #1

Assuming that you are using original Canon cartridges or a brand of Compatibles that you have used before.

If print results are blurred, colors are faded or not printed correctly, the pint head nozzles are probably clogged.

Follow the procedure below to print the nozzle check pattern, check the print head nozzle condition, then clean the Print Head. You may have to do this 2 or 3 times.

If printed ruled lines are misaligned or print results are otherwise unsatisfactory, aligning the Print Head may improve print quality.

Caution Do not rinse or wipe the Print Head and ink tanks. This can cause trouble with the Print Head and ink
tanks.

Note Before performing maintenance
Open the Top Cover and make sure that all lamps on the ink tanks are lit red.
If not, see Checking the Ink Status and take an appropriate action.
Increasing the print quality in the printer driver settings may improve the print result.

Faded text every few lines- Canon printer

When you print photos you print in Max dpi, for this no faded lines anywhere. Probably you have a problem only in black color in print head.
Мay be it's partially clogged or partially defective.

try using isopropyl alcohol and a lint-free cloth and carefully clean the print heads on the printer itself. Failing that, consult the manufacturer.

Problem with printing in black writing not clear and very faded.

It sounds like you need to run a printhead cleaning. The print head is what you put the ink cartridges into, it's responsible for placing ink directly to the page. If the some of the nozzles are clogged up, it can give you bad print quality. Without knowing the exact model of your printer, I can't tell you exactly where to find the menus needed to run the cleaning. Sometimes you can do this via the "maintenance" tab in the printers properties. If you need any further assistance, feel free to let me know.

I have a Xerox Phaser 8400 with image problems. After power up it prints a Startup Page - That page is black text which faded and slightly distorted in some areas and in areas that are in Color only...

What you are describing is a bad print head. You can try running the eliminate light stripes several times, and jet substitution, but most likely the print head will have to be replaced to remedy your problem.
You can try googling. Phaser printer print heads or phaser printheads.
There seems to be a secondary market appearing for those print heads. I can tell you from Xerox, if you have no maintenance agreement, they cost $750 per print head.
Honestly, having worked on about every type of color printer known to man, the new solid ink phaser printers, produce a dry ink image of 2400 x 2400 dpi with ink particles that align end to end. The resolution of those printers are remarkable and can be purchased for less than the price of one of those new print heads.
Now for reliable, albeit somewhat not as sharp a color image, but still exceptional, you really can not beat an HP.
The ink stick technology really no longer has the color vividness advantage it initially had. The inks that align end to end, have ended that advantage and are sure a lot cheaper to operate per page.

Problem with Canon MP730

hi, i was having the exact same problem with my printer. and i also tried reinstalling the driver. after reading your post i decided to see if the printing problem occurred when i used the other colors, and it looks like it's only a problem with the black ink. i printed out a sheet with the text in red and another in blue and they came out perfectly. but the black grid that surrounded the blue text, still looked problematic.

so... that means that the black ink is the problem. i haven't tried putting in a new cartridge. did you say that your problem occurred after you put in a new black cartridge, or did you try putting in a new black cartridge and you still had the same problem?
