Re: my panasonic tv(video/tv/dvd combo} turns on by...
Ok this is actually a common problem, but it can be caused by many things. First lets see what it might be:
1) Dirty on/off switch contacts
2) Control processor responding to interference
3) On/Off switch partially depressed in switch housing
4) Capacitor connect to control bus not working properly
5) Control Circuitry damaged by electrostatic or electromagnetic pulses
Now these are the logical reasons, any other and you need more help then I can offer.
I would not suggest that you do any work on this TV but rather get a qualified TV technician to check the TV and give you an estimate on how much it will cost to repair your TV. It should not cost much.

could be that either the dvd or the vcr are malfunctioning, usually it is the vcr that creates the problem. If you turn tv on and set vol to low see if you can hear the noise of the motor loading or trying to load, with out a tape inside. It may be a good idea to have a qualified tech repair it, these units are difficult to work on and further problems may come up if you are not familiar with the tv.
There should be a closed caption button on your remote control. You will want to go into the CC settings and turn off the TEXT mode as that is whats causing the black box to appear. Please take a few moments to rate my answer.. Thanks..
I am trying to access the "Picture Control" on my Sylvania 6719dc tv/dvd/vcr combo on the new universal remote control I just bought online.I can turn it off and on and change channel but I can't get to picture control so i can lighten up my picture. Can anyone help?
Is there a tape in the VCR by chance?.
Usually what happens on these combo units is the VCR develops a
mechanical problem which inhibits the whole thing from working or
overloads the power supply causing it to shutdown.
The ones with the VCR underneath are difficult to work on as the cables
to the VCR are so short you have to disconnect it in order to get it
out where you can see what is going on, then work on a solution, put it
all back together, test it, rinse - lather - repeat. Takes
forever sometimes. Find a good VCR tech and talk to him
nice and maybe they will help you.
