I found a guy that will do it for $250

But he said he is going to use Toshiba Convergence chips instead of Panasonic ones..he said it will work fine..what do you think?
I talked to one repair shop and they said they would never use anything but OE panasonic chips on this tv..but i tend to side with the guys who said the Toshiba chips would work fine.

Toshiba will work. I would insist that he use origional sanyo ICs as they are the very best that you can get and they last longer. Sanyo makes the toughest STK ICs. available.

Toshiba big screen Model TZ50V60 Convergence Issue-Chips Replaced

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony,Samsung, JVC, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Akai, Pioneer, Hitachi, Zenith, and others. You can get a convergenece repair kit wiith instructions from the links below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

Panasonic PT-47WX42 blue horizontal convergence failed

Picture you submitted with this is Toshiba--if set is Panasonic pt47wx42 it uses two STK-392-110 CONVERGENCE IC'S----both need to be replaced and any of the blue 2.2 ohm resistors around them that are bad changed also--the resistors are light blue in color--if you locate them look for any that are white in the middle. The convergence chips are on metal heat sinks next to each other and are black(about 2 inch wide and 1 1/2 inch tall). They will have the STK-392-110 number printed on them in white.

You can buy both chips on Ebay for less than 20 dollars including shipping. I have step by step instructions for this repair on this kind of set--if you have the skill you can do it yourself.

Most of these sets just need the two chips changed and the set adjusted. If you cannot do the repair yourself--now is the slow time of year for TV shops--shop around--I do this kind of repair in the home--takes about an hour--shops will try to charge 300-400 for this and I do it for 200-250----I have done hundreds of these sets in the last year.

If someone wants to "take it to shop" keep looking; any good tech can fix this in your home; once the chips are replaced they will be good for about 5 years--some go 8 years.

If you want the instructions let me know and give me an email address and I will send them to you---If you have the skill you can do it yourself--
You did not ask---the reason they fail is there is a white heat sink grease applied to each of them when they are installed--it transfers heat from the chip to the metal quickly--after several years it dries out from the heat and the chip reaches a point where it cannot move the heat fast enough--it then fails.

I do this here for free and if this has been helpful give me a vote here--IF you have any questions or want to have the instructions reply to this here--The instructions are my own--they are in Microsoft word.

Regards, SD TECH

Convergence problem

If its a Toshiba 57hx81 it was first made in 2001. It uses two STK-392-110 convergence ic's; If set will not adjust in some way one or both chips need to be replaced--common problem in rear projection sets---Also there are some resistors around it and they need to be checked also--several identical resistors--usually grey in color and with a low value from 1.5 to 1.8 ohms---they can be tested like checking a fuse--the color bands on them determine the value.

You can buy both the chips on Ebay for about 12 dollars plus shipping----I know there are also a number of sites on the internet offering a "kit" for this kind of repair--usually about 70 dollars---a waste of money as most sets just need both the chips replaced and then the set adjusted.

If you cannot do this repair yourself---now is the slow time of year for TV repair shops---A good tech should be able to do this repair in your home---I did two of them today and have done hundreds of them in the last year.

Call around and if they say "it needs to go to shop" keep looking. Lots of shops charge 300-400 for this kind of repair---I do the same thing here for 200-250---find someone who will do it in your home---YOU cannot replace the set for 200-250 and usually the convergence problem is the only kind of trouble these sets have--once the chips are replaced they should be good for 5 years and some sets go 8 years.

I do this here for free so if this has helped you give me a vote here----if you have questions or need some help let me know.

Toshiba TP48C90 Convergence (replaced ICs, worked for 2 days)

Well, my thought is that there are a ton of knock off generic convergence IC's out there that usually hold up as long as yours did. Professionals like me will only use Sanyo original STK's. The counterfeit STK's out there are everywhere. Do some research on the web to locate Sanyo originals, they are out there.

Convergence is off in the lower right and upper left corner

The repair isn't too complicated if you're comfortable working with a soldering iron. Sounds like one of the "guns" is shot. The chips that need replacing are attached to the heatsink on the convergence board. The reason for replacing both chips is if you're going to bother to take the board out and replace one bad chip, that is the best time to replace the other older chip. The link below is to step by step instructions including pictures of the repair. You can check it out to see if you want to try it. If not, the repair is expensive (between 250-400) depending on the repairman. Best of luck with your convergence problem.

Same problem with the 3 blinks

Thats an expensive price for 20 minutes worth of repair and 20 dollars in parts. For that price I would insist that he use origional SANYO ICs as sanyo designed the STK series Chip and even though other brands have the stk number they are cheap imitations. origional sanyo parts will come packaged with the sanyo UPC code on the package. Otherwise you will probaly end up with 5.99 cheap versions and they will only last a short period of time
