Have you checked that the brush is clean and the belt is clear of any hair or objects, that is usually the problem, maybe the brush isn't spinning, flip it upside down and check, our dyson will have these problems once in a while, sometimes a string or something will get stuck on the brush and cause the noise

Is it when you go from carpet to floor or floor to carpet? It will make a loud noise detecting a possible suction issue. I've also had loud noises and turned over the vacuum and where the brush is, traps hair, thread, rubber bands, etc. Just take a scissor and cut it all out. Don't cut the bristles. Roll the brush as you cut and pull all the stuff wrapped around the brush. Once it is free, try it again.

It is probably the brush roll motor making the noise. Remove the brush roll & belt and turn both motors on. If you do not hear the noise when both motors are running the noise is likely coming from the brush roll

Dyson Ball DC24 brush turns but is loose and makes a very loud noise. Brush seems to be hitting sides of vacume.

You need a new brush and end cap. The brush and end cap can wear or break in time as they are made of plastic. Spares available on Dyson web site.

Dyson makes loud noise

Could be damage to Fan within motor or shaft on motor..Remove brush roll and run with nothing connected to motor ,if noise still appparent then sounds like one or the other if ok then check for damage to the brush roller.../Housing..good luck

Loud noises are usually caused by worn belts, unbalanced roller brush or debris in the roller brush. Check these things. Here is a link to the belt you need:

Did you check the roller brush to make sure it was clear of debris?

When I tilt back handel and turn dial to carpet It makes a loud grinding noise

On a Dyson this engages the brush bar. Two possible faults: Debris (hair etc) caught in brush bar - cut out with knife. Or - damaged drive belt - pieces of belt striking casing. Last, but unlikely cause, debris in bearings of brush bar - replace brush bar.

You need to clean your roller and replace the clutch assembly that drives the belts. poorly designed vacuum with many flaws.

Hi i had this problem myself and it sounds like your clutch assembly is broken which would be what the horrible noise your dyson is making only when your brushroll is on. Go to www.sparesaver.com to the help & support section.
It tells you all the information you need to know on how to Fit and take out your clutch and they supply it at a fantastic price!

Before you replace the clutch try thoroughly cleaning the brushroll. The Dyson manual does not go far enough. Remove the bar by grasping the end opposite of the belt and twist it back towards the belt till it is free. Cut away any string or hair wound round the brush and wash with damp rag lightly soapy rag. Then pop off the caps at the ends (the black plastic that is round at one end and rectangular at the other) we found debris and hair wound round the shaft). Clean and lubricate with 3 in 1 oil. Reassemble (the belt lifter for Dyson makes it easier). Wish we'd tried this before we replaced the clutch!
