Router problem: Linksys router (RV016) not working
Previously I asked..."I bought a 16 port router on Ebay,it seems to function intermittently ,while the Lynksis 8 port router does not seem to function at all.2 Gigs can I ship them to you for an estimate??????"
You replied with information on how to "reset" and test the routers. Unfortunately, both fail to connect to the PC, Digital modem, and web mgt. console. The "Diag" indicator light is solidly illuminated.
Can you assist with hardware repair, or suggest a service shop that can repair the hardware?

To reset your router there is a small button at the back of your router press it for a few second then start to configure again open your internet explorer then type the default af add 192.168.1.1 then enter then at the log in box type admin leave the password blank then set up your router by entering your modem ip address, gateway,subnet mask ,dns... to get the ip rigth clik the connction icon at the lower right of your monitor then click status then click support

Try upgrading the firmware. Linksys' website should have the latest version for your router posted there.
Are you able to log in to the web interface for your router? Are you able to ping your gateway address (likely, 192.168.1.1)?
You may also want to try resetting it to factory default.
the best thing to do here is have a firmware upgrade which can be downloaded from the Linksys site. Base from experience (we have been using a lot of linksys products and currently we are using an RV016), these lock-up problems are caused by firmware problems and can be solved by firmware upgrade.
To isolate the problem beter connect your wireless router directly to the modem and configure it, check if you are able to go online properly so that you can figure out the problem if your wireless router is not working properly, try upgrading the latest firmware and reset the router and reconfigure the router and that will fix your problem...
Probably, you're desktop's IP changed. This means that your port forwarding is sending the requests to the wrong IP address. Just update your IP address in the Applications and Gaming tab of your router, and it should start working again.
Try to reset the router first. There's a reset button at the back of it, hold it down for 30 seconds then unplug the power for 30 seconds, power it on. Make sure your Modem is connected to the Internet port on the router and your PC is in port 1.
Hi, you don't have to send it to me. I can help you with that. First we will check if the router is still working. Simply connect a computer to port 2 or 3 or 4 or 5, and lets see if the computer will get an ip address of 192.168.1.100, if it does there is a chance that this could work.
To checked ip address:
After connecting the pc to the befsr81, puss the reset button for 30seconds when the power is on, wait for 1 minute, reconnect the power. The power light of the befsr81 should be steady and the port light where you connected the pc should be lit.
Go to the computer. if pc is XP, click START then click RUN, in the open field type cmd then click ok, it will take you to the black screen. on the black screen type ipconfig, click enter. If the ip is 192.168.1.100 that means that we are in business.

I know you probally already tried the reset control on the unit. Make sure unit is on when you reset it and hold for ten seconds. If you did that can you give a little more info on exactaly what happend when it quit working for you. Thanks Happy Holidays bear001
