Camera not working. when camera switched on, it says " camera failed"

Try this it may work. Turn on the camera. While still on remove the battery. Leave for 30 secs and reinstall the battery while still in on mode. Switch off and switch on. This may work to reset.

Cheak the lens block its faulty

Make sure both the lens and the camera are switched to af (auto focus). If that doesn't work remove the lens and replace it to make sure it is mounted properly. You can also check the camera with a different lens to make sure it isn't a problem with the settings on the camera. If all of that fails take it to a camera or electronics store that does service work to make sure it hasn't been damaged.

Get a can of compressed air, attach straw and blow in the crevice around the button "two good blast" to try and blowout any debris. If this fails! try a can of electronic cleaner, attach straw and very carefully put a very small amount around the crevice of the button no more, and press the button repeatedly to work it in, this is more likely to yield better results. If this fails! dis-assembly of the camera will be required to do a deep cleaning of the on/off switch.

Ok this sounds crazy but take out the batteries and your sd memory card. Wait five seconds. Put ONLY BATTERIES back in the camera. Turn it back on. It should not show the "sensor fail" message now.

Put in the sd card while camera is on. It will say "memory full" in red letters. Ignore this.

Turn the camera off using the on/off switch. Turn the camera back on using the on/off switch.


It's been a while since you've posted, but I hope this helps! It worked for my camera anyhow :)

First clean battery contacts with cotton cuetip and water, then wipe dry with dry cuetip. Check batteries to see if each discharged. Lack of use, moisture may have damaged the camera. Try to push on/off switch many many times to see if it will be zapped to work again.

Store camera in a ziplock bag to control moisture, while you work the on/off switch.

I suspect the slide switch fail. You can clean it with contact clean if not replaced. Must be open inside to access switch for cleaning.Good luck!

Yes I have the same problem. Camera will not switch on.

Switch on the flash and put the camera to your ear.
If you can hear a hgh pitched whine then this uggests the flash tubs has blown
If you cannot then the capacitor more likely has failed.
It may be possible to repair - Check out the Olympus web site.

Here's another method to fix this problem.
Push the ON Button for some while and you will go to MEMO recording screen, in this mode the MENU button works and you can RESET the camera.
