What happens when you charge it from the computer? Does it show the icon with the unit and the computer tower?

Try to fully charge the device through the wall charger, takes about 4 hours, then try setting up. If this doesn't work, remove the battery, wait a couple of minutes, put it back, connect the wall charger and try again. To remove the battery you need a 2 mm allen wrench (was in the shipping box)

H20 gps says waiting for nmea gps serial data

Your GPS is looking for an alternative source of NMEA data and is no longer doing it itself. If it doesn't get that data it will continue to look or wait for it. We can disable this function so the GPS relies solely on the data it is receiving through its own antanae. This function can only be changed while in Advanced mode. If you're not running in advanced mode make sure you switch to advanced mode. Once there, go to your Main Menu (from map screen, hit menu twice). In that menu, go and select SYSTEM SETUP. In your System Setup menu you will see an opition, COM PORT. Select COM PORT and hit Enter. You will see three Check boxes (NMEA INPUT, NMEA GPS INPUT, NMEA OUTPUT). Make sure that none of those are checked. Once you are done, you can EXIT out of the menus. Go out and see if you can acquire a Satellite Fix.

I have lost my Mapsource Setup cd for my Garmin GPS

  1. Download MapSource software updater from Garmin. The version as of December 4, 2007 is 6.13.6, and the trick also works on Map Source version 6.13.5.
  2. Unpack or extract the content of MapSource_6136.exe
    downloaded using WinRAR.
  3. From the extracted files, run MAIN.msi.
  4. Then, run Setup.exe. Note: The sequence to execute Main.msi and then Setup.exe is important to avoid “Previous MapSource not found!” error.
  5. Garmin MapSource now installed.

It won't turn on and even if i plug it into the computer or a ciagrette lighter nothing happens. it was working perfectly fine when i was using it and now i have absolutely nothing. it kept saying low...

Have you tried pressing and holding the power button for about 8 to 10 seconds? It should go on then off. Then wait a few seconds the turn it on normally. This usually resets the unit.
If this does not work try a hard reset.
Press and hold (and continue to hold) the bottom-right corner of the screen while powering the unit on.

Continue to hold the screen until the "Do you want to erase all user data?" prompt appears.

Press "yes" and the unit will reboot. This resets all your location settings and user preferences.

If possible after the hard reset, let the unit sit outdoors in the open for about 30 minutes or so to let the unit re-acquire the satellite data.

Once it gets going update your gps at the Garmin site.
Thanks for using FixYa
Here is a link to the owners manual if needed.

Hello I have a tomtom xl and the "this device belongs to " will not continue to move onto the next screen. Please adivse many thanks

I think and i am not sure about this, that the unit was expecting at some time for you to go into the setup menu and enter your name or something in this slot and will continue to do so until you give it what it wants. Again not sure about this since i don't use this particular unit. Hope this helps

My etrex legend won´t detect any satellites.

Make sure its not stuck in simulator mode in the setup menu. then update your firmware on the device. you can get it from www.garmin.com
if that doesnt work then there is something internally wrong with it and will need to be sent in for repairs.

Gps model 330

Hi,
-after the units have been off for awhile...they need considerable time to reconfigure the satelites

-so.....
  1. go outside with unit turned on
  2. find an open area...with a clear view of the sky...i.e. away from trees/bldgs/etc.
  3. wait...upwards of 20+ minutes...depending upon your unit
  4. it should be picking up signals continuously...and begin to calculate your location
-the above assumes that the unit has batteries, hasn't been dropped, etc.
-if that is the case....then the unit has other issues

Interfacing

have you checked to make sure that your serial port is enabled in your computer bios.

to check:

some computers require you to press del while booting other esc.

the message should read somthing in the line

press ???? to enter setup

go to the advanced tab

look in IO (Input/Output) devices or somthing similar.

Make sure Com1 or UART is enabled.

If the device is enabled, then check to make sure that your cable is making a connection properly.

(May require you to open up the unit) if out of warantee

To check that the cable is connected properly on the outside contact to db9 port.

Pin 1 2 5 are used on the db 9

on the inside there is a cable with 4 wires soldered to a board which links the outside to the inside.

Connect your serial cable to the GPS, using a multimeter check continuity by holding red lead on pin 1 of db9 serial port and checking each pin for continuity. only 1 should indicate continuity, continue with pin 2 and pin5 on serial port connector.

If you are sure that there is connection between cable and GPS, check the cable from the soldered points to the GPS Board. If those are ok, then you may have a problem on the board. Would then sugest you take it in for checking.

Fritzed Unit when antenna up

I have a similar problem but I can't turn the GPS off at all, even when the antenna is down. As far as the power on/off cycle, I found another link on this site that said to turn off WAAS while the GPS is off then when you turn it on the unit will not power cycle continuously. You loose the WAAS feature but the GPS and unit still works.
