Oh yeah i guess i should include the dvd drive works fine, my computer isn't recognizing it tho, it cant find it because the drive it loose and it keeps pulling the plugs out just enough to not work. yet it still has a power source because it still spins/loads discs and it can eject and everything even the light still comes on... rather irritating because i cant create backup discs or anything. i would take it back to acer but its 3 months past its warranty and i cant afford to pay the extra to get it shipped fixed and shipped back.

Hmmm bit iffy bout doing that because i attempted it earlier and it wasnt coming away all that easily. but i will attempt it again, just hope that it doesnt crack at all, im not rough with anything but yeah just anxious lol.

  • Shay Pierce Mar 18, 2008

yeah tried taking the case off but above the right speaker wont budge so im not going to attempt that again. just cos i dont want it ruined or have to replace the casing.

  • Shay Pierce Mar 18, 2008

yeah, im not planning on taking it apart anymore, ill just have to put up with my dvd drive being disconnected cos i certainly dont have the money to get it fixed. thanks anyway :)

I would suggest that you dont touch your laptop anymore, you might damage something there that will lead you to yet another problem. bring it to a computer shop and have them replace the casing for you, if they damage it, well, youll get the replacement for free.

You should just be able to remove all of the screws from the bottom of the laptop and then the casing around the keyboard, the keyboard and any extra casing on the bottom will come off and you should be able to get to the drive and put some new screws in, make sure they are exactly the same though. Any screws you try to take out will most likely have locktight on them and so it will take a little force to get them out

there may be a seal that I a missing but I have taken my laptops apart and as long as you pry little by little and keep the covers from bending to the point of cracking, everything will come apart fine

the speaker must have some kind of adhesive holding it in, I'm sure that it should come apart, maybe take it to radio shack or another place where they can remove the parts you are having trouble with or ask for visual advice on the specific parts, I hope this helps, but laptops can be a pain to take apart sometimes

Lose Hinge

You might have to remove the Palmrest and keyboard to tighten the screws on the hinges. Have some cups with labels on them so you will know where the screws came from. Turn the laptop over and remove the screws on the bottom. Remove the battery and remove any screws inside the battery case or compartment. Notice some screws might have the icon of a keyboard besides them, if so they hold the keyboard in place. Remove the covers for the hard drive, memory and any other devices then remove them and look for screws inside the case where they came from. Remove the dvd drive and look for screws in the dvd drive compartment that hold the palmrest to the frame.

Turn the laptop back over and remove the strip that is above the keyboard very carefully because there might be a cable under it. You will just have to pry it loose because it snaps in place. The lcd hinges might be exposed enough so that you can tighten them without removing the keyboard and palmrest.

Next remove the keyboard. The strip that was above the keyboard might have screws under it that hold the keyboard in place so remove the screws. Sometimes the keyboard has little catches that hold it on the sides, so just work with one side first by bending it a little to get past the catches. Once you get one side loose you can carefully lift the keyboard because there is a cable that is under it that attaches to the board that you want to remove from the board. Now the LCD Hinges might be exposed so you can tighten them.

I have an Acer laptop, but my dvd rom drive does not appear in the My Computer folder and in that case I cannot use it to open Cd or Dvd. I need help to solve this problem. Thanks.

It's actually a manufacturing problem. The dvd metal case atually touches the the interior metal case of the laptop causing a shortcircuit. Solution: Remove The DVD drive from its place by removing the screw of the drive from the back of laptop and then pull the drive gently out from the laptop case. At the end of DVD case you can see the metalic extension, with a little hole. Cover that entire area with something, i used a sticker, but let that hole free, so you can put the screw back in once you put the DVD drive back in to the laptop case. That's it. If your DVD drive has no other defects, it should work

Acer 5100 laptop dvd/cd player is broken, how do I remove it?

Remove the access cover on the bottom of the case that houses the heatsink, wireless card and RAM memory. No components have to be removed to remove the cd drive. Now look at the cd bezel and then back toward where the RAM memory is installed in thier slots. There is a screw marked by a circle with what looks like a wedge taken out. This is the holding screw for the cd player. Once you remove this screw, there is agap next to the screw hole that you can stick the screwdriver in and push the cd player part way out of the case. Once you do that, grip the front of the drive and pull it free of the case. Refer to page 60 of the service manual I have included the link for below. Make sure you have a PDF file reader like Adobe or Fox-It Reader.

Cd/dvd combo drive problem

Pry up the long, thin plastic panel above the function keys. Remove the 2 screws that secure the keyboard (up top, under where the panel was). The cd has a couple of screws that I have seen work their way loose in the past. If you remove the screws and slide your cd out, you will see a black connector. Make sure the screws that secure the connector are tight too. Then reassemble. If your cd is seated properly, you should see it listed as a storage device on "my computer" from your start menu.

How to replace the DVD drive on Acer Aspire 5002

I actually had to permorm this action yesterday.
First remove the small strip above the keyboard by unscrewing the three screws at the back of the machine that hold it; then twisting the screen al the way back and lifting it up.
Second unscrew the keyboard (2 screws) and lift it away (don't detach the cable).
Third: on the left side under the keyboard unscrew 3 screws that hold the cdrom in place.
Pull the drive out. The rest (taking the case of the dirve) should be transparent.
There is nothing on the bottom you have to unscrew!

Replace DVD/CD drive on Satellite A105 notebook.

Ther is probably a single swcrew that releases the entire DVD/CD drive and it pulls out. Check your owner's manual or go to Toshiba's website and download the repair/trouble shoooting/owner's manuals and they will tell you exctly what to do.

DELLS usually have a screw insode of the memory access plate or under the battery after it is removed, but I odmn't know where they are on Toshibas.

Remove cd/dvd drive acer travelmate 2310

I'm not an expert on Acer, but I can tell you that *most* CD/DVD drives just "pull" out with a little bit of oomph applied. It's just a plastic connector on the other end of the drive that connects to the motherboard inside.

Eject the drive tray, and *GENTLY* pull out with a slight bit of pressure. If you feel your muscles tensing up, you are pulling too hard and perhaps there is a hidden screw - generally, though, if there is a screw, it's in plain sight on the bottom of the case (and obviously should be removed first!)

Hope this helps - remember to rate! :)

Replacing CD-RW/DVD Drive

I own a Presario F730US. I have had it apart many times and it is a difficult case to open. There are several ribbon cables that are easily damaged if you are not very careful. You have to pop up the speaker cover panel as there are case screws under it as well. Once inside you will see the screws that retain the optical drive. Once you remove them it will slide right out and the new one will slide right in. I can not overstate how careful you have to be. If you are not 100% sure of yourself I would recomend that you take it to a repair shop and let a qualified tech assist you. The screws you need to get to are under the keyboard. The whole laptop does not need to be disassembled to swap the drive. Once you pop the speaker bazel and the keyboard you are home free. If you need more help feel free to ask.

DVD Drive

once the screw is removed, you may need to insert the tip of the screwdriver, behind a small curved plate, where screw went in. Also, on outside of the laptop, there is usually a small button/tab key, which may be pressed in, then retracted, to pull the DVD drive out of it's bay.
