Hi vgriff,

If I may add to the posts of pincer, Ekse and smilemaker.....

There are two (2) possible sides where the line will appear, on the printing side and on the back of the printed page.

If the line is on the printed side, then it is likely one of the rollers is smudged with ink. You can determine the most likely by aligning the printed paper (with line) to which roller the line coincides with. The solution of course would be to clean manually (though a bit messy).

However, this also indicates that the roller got the ink from somewhere and the most likely place would be the from the bottom plate which in turn got it from drippings from the print head. Having said that then chances are, you would also have smears, lines ink smudges on the other side of the paper.

If you would be kind enough to look over the the Maintenance Sections (in the PIXMA MP530 Properties), there would be an option to perform a "Bottom Plate Cleaning" option. This should be done a couple of times and insert paper when and where directed by the on screen instructions. Thereafter it may also be necessary to manually clean the bottom plate.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

Printers work by creating latent images on a rotating, light-sensitive drum and then attracting toner to exposed points on that drum. If any point on the drum’s light-sensitive surface is damaged, you may notice that toner is always attracted to that point, thereby transferring to the final page and appearing as a repeating mark. Because the drum is a cylinder, such marks will appear at equal distances down the page, corresponding to each rotation of the drum (maybe every two inches, for example).

An EP (electrophotographic) “engine” that can be replaced in just a few easy steps. Check your printer’s documentation and replace the appropriate assembly (or have someone do it for you), and the repeating marks should go away.

    Best regards,

My Brother MFC-7420 Printer always prints black lines and splotches down the left side of my paper. This happens whether I'm scanning or printing from my PC. When I looked at my drum, it appears a

If you are seeing vertical streaks/black lines your primary corona wire is dirty and or the fax scanner may be dirty.
1)To clean the corona wire you take the drum unit and toner cartridge and place it on disposable paper to avoid spilling.
2) Clean the primary corona wire inside the drum unit by sliding the blue tab from right to left several times.
3) Return the blue tab and snap it into the home position.
4) Reinstall the drum unit and toner cartridge.
5) Close the front cover.
Caution: if you do not return the blue tab to the home position it may repeat the black lines.

I always have a black line down the middle of the page when i scan. help

If there's a black line when scanning but not when printing, you need to clean the scan bed. Either the glass has something on it or check the paper path if you're using the ADF. A single ink spot either place will print a line down the whole length of your scan.

Why do I have a black line down the side of my scanned documents?

If you are using the ADF (Automatic Document Feeder) there is likely debris in that section of the scanning glass. The ADF parks the scanner in place and moves the paper over it, if something is on the scanner it will show up as a line. Check the thin section of glass at whichever end of the scanning deck for dust and clean it with a dry towel. If this is happening with documents on the scanner bed the debris is likely in the scanner and will likely need professional servicing.

My Ricoh Aficio CL2000N is printing several faint lines

Couple possibilities:
Fuser hot belt has wear lines transfering to the page
Black pcu needs to be replaced
Transfer unit is not being cleaned properly and needs to be replaced.
Remove each of these assy and inspect them for wear or lines that corespond to the lines on your prints.

Black line is present when copying document; not

This sounds as if you have some ink/contamination on the small scaning glass that sits to either the left or right of the main glass on the copier.(Depending on the model/make)As your original is scanned over this thin piece of glass the scanning device will see any spots and this will result in a black line down the page. Please clean the glass with a soft rag.

2" black horizontal line appears on paper when I fax, print,

Check the wondow where the paper passes to be scanned. You will probably find some debris or white out stuck on the glass. That is usually the cause of vertical lines on sent faxes.

Before doing anything more drastic, I would try this.. let us know how it turns out.. if it doesn't work, we'll go from there.
