Question about LG DVD 6183 DVD Player
Shows loading for about 2 mins then displays no disc.had this repaired before 3 times with the same problem...but the same problem repeats.
Hi, had the same problem myself, turns out (after some investigation) that the motor that spins the dvd wasn't getting power. I carefully pulled out the smaller ribbon cable that goes to the small circuit board beneath the drive caddy, then pushed it back in. Put it back together, turned it on and off it went! Yay!

This problem can initially send users into a panic attack, because they naturally tend to assume that the drive must be the source of the problem. But in the vast majority of cases, it's the media that's not working properly. Remove the questionable disc from the drive and pop in another disc, preferably a factory-stamped disc such as an audio CD. If the drive reads the audio CD, you know the drive is working properly and the disc is the problem. The disc may be scratched, or perhaps you accidentally grabbed a blank CD-R instead of the recorded CD-R you meant to use. It happens to everybody.
If you know you're using a readable disc, clearly the drive is the source of the problem. It's possible that the drive's laser has become dirty to the point that it can't read the disc. Open the drive's caddy and spray into the drive with compressed air. The blast of air should blow away any dust buildup over the laser. Pop a disc into the drive and try to read it again.
If your drive still can't read any disc, even after you clean it, the drive may have a serious problem indeed. The drive's motor may not be working properly, or the laser in the read head assembly may be malfunctioning. In either case, it's probably best to simply replace the drive. Drives are so cheap now that replacing a broken drive is a more viable option than fixing it.
