Tries to print, but then ink cartridge moves to left and it all stops
I have tried restarting computer, reinstalling printer, checked all connections and nothing works. Every time I try to print, it acts like it's going to print, but then it makes a weird noise and slams the cartridge to the far left side and then stops. The lights blink and the message is something like 'cannot complete print task'. I don't know. I unplugged the darn thing last week. Too frustrating to keep trying. Any suggestions? One guy said to turn upside down and shake? Also to clean all parts with alcohol. It was working fine and I use it a lot, then all of a sudden...blinking and slamming.

Re: tries to print, but then ink cartridge moves to left...
The printer gears assembly is brokem or gor cracked so it is giving this message that ---cannot complrte print task---
just get that assembly replaced to make it proper.
it will cost u near $20 for the assembly.

Power off the printer, check for obstructions.
Move the print head to the left side, then again check for obstructions.
Make sure the cartridge cover is closed.
Try to reinstall your inks, push them down the cartridge holder until they click.
If the printer head works and you think it's printing, but nothing's showing up on the paper, you need to check the ink cartridge. Be sure that it has ink.
If the printer sounds, but it will only feed the paper and take the paper out again, then try to power cycle the printer. Disconnect the power cord from the wall socket and plug it back in after 5 minutes.
If the printer head moves just a bit, then there's no response from the printer, make sure that there are no pending documents on the queue.
Try to stop then restart the printer spooler. To stop then restart the spooler, here's how:
- Start > Run or Search > Type "services.msc" (without quotes). - Locate the Print Spooler then click it once and make sure that it's highlighted. - Click "Stop the service", then give 10 seconds, then click "Restart the service".
If that did not help, try to uninstall and reinstall the printer driver.
" Unplug the printer cable from the computer.
" Unistall the printer drivers from Device manager and also unistall the all the printer appications
" restart the computer
" try to download drivers from the website
" after installing drivers and software it will ask you to connect the printer.
" then you can connect the printer and and try to Print the test page.
Need more info. Any error messages? Did it just stop pumping ink on paper. Are you trying to print black text or color picture? If no error, your cartridges may be empty. If black text does not work, try color picture. Usually one cartridge goes empty and the other still has ink. If color pic prints replace black cartridge. If neither black or color prints at all, it may be a toasted printhead
If you need to reinstall the software, uninstall it, then go to lexmark.com and get new drivers from their site. RESTART COMPUTER! Reinstall from the downloaded file.
If all the above fail to make it work, it is hosed, shop for new printer.
You may check to insure the USB cable at the printer or at the computer is connected properly and didn't come loose by chance. Try disconnecting the USB cable from the computer, wait ten seconds then reconnect. This will let Windows "find" the printer again. Worse case scenario, you could delete the printer through device manager, reboot you computer and Windows will "find" the printer and reinstall the driver automatically on restart. Also check that the ink cartridge(s) is seated properly.
