Question about Lexmark X5250 All-In-One InkJet Printer

Lexmark X5250 cannot print via an Intellinet NAS

Utilising the print server provided by the Intellinet NAS results in a print failure when trying to print to the port. Any ideas what could be the problem. Installing another brand of printer to the NAS port resolves the problem indicating a driver mismatch somewhere for the Lexmark

    Hi

I installed the latest driver available on the Lexmark website CJB5200EN.exe V1.0.8.2. My operating version differs from WinXP home and WinXP Prof.

    Hi

When I open the Lexmark properties I see no port assigned under the ports tab. I also cannot add a port because the butoons is not enabled. This surely is my problem but how do I assign a port? Lexmark in south Africa is also unable to assist me!

  • zookaroo May 19, 2008

Yes I am logged on as admin but the add port tans is greyed out for the printer attached to the Nas port. Local printer properties are active all active on the port tabs.

  • zookaroo May 20, 2008

I am using win xp prof on one and home edition on the other 3 and all off them react the same to the installation. Inteelinet reckons that multi function printers cannot print to print servers like the NAS. I find that difficult to belief but according to them I need additional hardware but exectly what I do not know.

First , in order to change the ports, you will have to be logged in as administrator. Once done, you can change/add ports when in the printer properties.

Since you tried reinstalling your drivers already, what is the OS of the computer you are using? Also, can you try installing this printer onto a different computer to see if that works, thanks. Please let me know about my questions.

instead of using the print server, can you try hooking the printer up directly to a computer with drivers and see if that works at all since I believe you are hooking the printer to the print server. If this is what you are doing, then switch it and hook the printer directly to the server since I don't quite understand what the printer is connected to. If you connect it directly to a computer and set up a network between all computers, then the printer should work for all computers. Perhaps the server has to be set up with the printer if not done so already.

If the printer works and prints if you connect it directly to your pc, then the print is not geting to the right port.

Check printers and faxes, open your lexmark note the port.
compare the port to the other printer that is working with the nas print server.

Port Forwarding Instructions

I would suggest setting a static IP on the NAS within the subnet you have. Then log into the ip for the modem and use the web interface from the modem to configure. Dependant on which area in the settings (either NAT or firewall configuration), Look for Virtual Servers option. You should then be able to set your port forwarding for what services you wish to use. Word of warning I would suggest also using the user creation function in the NAS so users will have to authenticate before gaining access. Many of the new NAS devices have the functionality to use Active Directory/LDAP for authentication.

In your office network, for sure, you have a DHCP server who gave the IP addresses to all devices for that network and this seems to be the reason for why you could see your NAS. On home, you also need a DHCP server. You don't say anything about you home network. The best idea is to just make a temporary network with 2 devices: your computer and your NAS by connecting the NAS directly to your computer's network adapter, set the IPV4 IP for that adapter to the same class addresses as your NAS was set by default (usually NAS had "192.168.x.y" where "x" could be 0, 1 or 2 "y" could be any value between 1 and 254, but mostly, 1) and try to access it via http to manage him (need a user name and a password). For NAS default address and username and password, consult NAS user manual. Access it with from your preferred browser using: \\192.168.x.y
Once you gain the control, cut off his DHCP service and tell him to accept the IP address from the network defined DHCP. (btw: one normal DHCP server is allowed on one network! Cascaded DHCP also is allowed, but it's a little bit complicated)
Good luck!

Hi,

I am having similar problems with my HomeBase. I have 3 x 1Tb Seagate external USB2.0 NTFS drives (FreeAgent) connected. The aim is to have my digital TV, LG set-top box, Apple TV, PC and Laptop all access the files and capacity offered by the NAS option.

They work fine in 'single user network USB' mode, but are very flaky / non-existant in 'NAS, multi-user' mode. There are times when the HomeBase is restarted and recognises one or more of the drives in NAS mode, but mostly they are not recognised. On the back of the unit, you can see the LED next to the USB port leading to the drives initially stay lit, but then flashes for 10-15 seconds and then goes out.

As I want the hard disks available to multiple devices I need to use the NAS setting.
Did you try to set the drives into 'Network USB mode' rather than NAS mode. Does that help?

Did anyone have a solution to the problem? Unfortunately Belkin technical support have not been very useful yet...

Thanks

Mark

Print jobs get stuck in the queue

OK - all the answer posts on HP sites, Experts Exchange and MS have been a joke to this problem so far. HP 10xx series LaserJet printers do not work (well) in a shared environment. I have found two solutions to this problem. If you really don't understand shares/printing/services/firewall exceptions - don't bother trying this - buy a networked printer when the toner runs out of the HP10xx.
If you want to spend a few hours or about $100 for a print server/NAS device, read on... I HAVE an HP1022 shared on a Windows XP Pro SP3 machine serving as a print server to a Vista laptop, a Windows 7 desktop and a Mac-Mini running OS X 10.6.x. ALL are working.
1. Buy a network print server device (or a NAS device with an included print server - I picked up a Buffalo LS-CHL 1TB and it worked out of the box. I AM NOT ENDORSING BUFFALO NAS servers, they get horrible reviews and you may end up having the same problem down the road due to the NAS device) In this case, your print clients (Win7, Vista, XP, MacOS X) can use a traditional SMB Windows client to print or the BETTER solution is to use the print services for Unix client that comes with Windows but is not installed by default. Both clients work, you may have fewer problems down the road using the Unix (LPR) client. See http://www.alexfalkenberg.com/2009/10/06/linkstation-windows-printing-problem-solved/ This is an excellent article on the Buffalo - BUT THE SOLUTION works in a native windows environment as well.
2. Build on the idea from number 1 above and INSTALL the LPDSVC (friendly name TCP/IP print services) on the machine with the printer LOCALLY attached through USB. You will also have to open up some firewall ports on the machine you are using as a print server if you have one running... I used a program exception (C:\WINDOWS\system32\tcpsvcs.exe) but you could lock this down to 1 TCP port if you wish - I think TCP 515 but you'd better check on this one...) Share the printer as normal. Next install the "Print Services for Unix" CLIENT on the machines you want to connect to the printer remotely from. When you connect to the printer share from the clients, select a LOCAL port, create a NEW PORT, select LPR, use the hostname or the IP of your machine acting as a print server and the NAME OF THE SHARE as the queue. (I don't like to have spaces in my share names, so I used HPLaserJet when I set up the share and description.) You will HAVE TO INSTALL THE RIGHT Printer driver locally on each client. This might be easiest just plugging in the printer with a USB cable since the HP printer driver is an installer as well and wants it to be connected locally unless you can extract the driver...)
Sorry I can't give more details than this. If you don't get the jist of what I am saying above. Don't try it. Give up and call the plumber.

I have a intellinet model 503693 router. my i phone connects automaticly when i am near (20 meters outside) how do i get it to request a password? the neighbours are using my internet connection.

Hi,
First let me give you steps how you can make your router secure from unauthorised access which your neighbours are doing
You need to login to the router setup page after connecting the router with pc via a cable

Connect to the Wireless G Broadband Router by entering http://192.168.1.254in the address field of your Web browser. Once you’ve logged in, the browser will display the administrator menu on the left-hand side of the screen, with the five configuration options — Wireless (Settings)

Encryption — Select "None," "WEP," "WPA," WPA2" or "WPA2 Mixed."
• WEP: Wired Equivalent Protocol.
• WPA: WI-FI Protected Access (WPA) is an intermediate solution for security issues. It uses Temporal Key Integrity Protocol (TKIP) to replace WEP.
WPA Authentication Mode — "Enterprise" uses an external authentication server (e.g., RADIUS) and EAP just as IEEE 802.1X does; "Personal" uses pre-shared keys without the need for additional servers. Both options will generate a master session key for the authenticator (AP) and supplicant (client station).
WPA Cipher Suite/WPA2 Cipher Suite — Choose either TKIP or AES.
Pre-Shared Key Format — Select passphrase or hex characters. Pre-Shared Key — Enter up to 128 characters.
Authentication RADIUS Server — Enter a port, IP address and password.

You can also read the manual of your router from the link i am providing

Let me know if this will help

Configure with utorrent

1.) To set up a static Ip address on your computer, click start, control panel, network and internet connections, network connections, right-click on local area network, click properties. In the window select tcp/ip, then click on the properties button.

Since your default gateway address is 192.168.2.1. Click on the selection titled 'Use the following ip address' Your Ip address should be 192.168.2.2, subnet mask 255.255.255.0, default gateway 192.168.2.1. Then in the next section click on the selection titled 'Use the following DNS server addresses' Preferred DNS would be 192.168.2.100 and alternate would be 192.168.2.200. click ok and you are done.

2.) As for the second problem, refer to the following link from the intellinet website. http://portforward.com/help/pfprogression.htm
