Make sure your pickup roller clean.
If it's clean and still jams the problem is inside.
- Remove left cover (where the USB connection is located);
- Remove big black gear with a spring on it (you may need to unscrew the PCB that partially covers it);
- There is a clutch that sticks to the rubber pad behind this gear. You may put a piece of scotch tape towards to a rubber pad, so the plastic from clutch mechanism would'n stick anymore. http://www.phillycopiers.com/fix/hl-2040-2070-fix.jpg

I have a paper jam in my printer (model HL-2140) and I cannot see any way of freeing the jammed paper. Very frustrating!

Make sure paper is lifted. After jam occurred remove the paper tray, press Go button and watch on the white gear located on the inner left side. If it spins the paper lifts. Then follow my next post.
