CD/DVD drive is not working. Had the problem last time but fixed.

Try to log in with Administrator Privilege. Try to clean DVD drive's Head with cotton lint free cloth as directed:
1. Open the Tray.
2. Take a Cotton lint free cloth and put your Index finger into cloth and make the cloth to cover that finger.
3. blow dry air from mouth over drive's lens.
4. Immediately rub prepared index finger with cloth over lens gently & try to clean.
5. try steps 1 to 4 for 2 or 3 times.

Now try to burn cd/dvd. Try with another new one blank cd/dvd.

Hmm...Hope this works out !

Step1: Device Manager
Right Click on 'MyComputer' and click on Properties.Click on 'Hardware' and then Click on 'Device Manager'.

For the Category 'DVD-CD-Roms', click the plus sign and then the branch expands down..whatever is the name of the drive there, right click the name and click on uninstall..(If the category
'DVD-CD-Roms' is not there at all, you'll have to remove the drive off the system and put it back again and then try)...

Step 2: Registry

Click on Start->Run(Xp) or Start->StartSearch(Vista) and then
type in Regedit and hit enter..
The registry editor will open up. Click the + sign next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, the branch will expand down..then click the + sign next to 'System' and then 'CurrentControlSet' and then 'Control' and then 'Class' and then click on the folder '4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318'....on the right side..find the enteries 'Upper Filters and Lower Filters' ...If they are found right click and delete them... and then restart your system. !!!!

Check now if the drive works !
If it doesnt then update the firmware of your cd-rom drive, If this still doesnt work..then iam afraid the drive is bad..(There is no need to Reinstall the O.S)

Note:Checking in BIOS & Device Manager for the hardware presence/detection of the drive is very important..If the drive is not getting detected in BIOS, then step 1 and 2 wont work...
Only Reseating the Drive might work!

Best Of Luck !

CD/DVD ROM disappears

I would think either your IDE cable is faulty or the IDE connector on the motherboard, try swapping cables or use a double IDE cable on IDE 1 connector. You may have a faulty drive ide connection input in which case a new DVD Rom is the answer, only cheap nowadays.
