I just tapped & tapped on the pad until it worked, when I discovered what released it it was the arrow (one to the right & one to the left ) on the very upper right hand corner of the touch pad. Now when it turns blue & freezes touching that section unlocks it. I have no idea why this happens.

Mouse touch pad not working

'F9' keys has a mouse, no mouse looking symbol. sometimes you use the 'Fn' key in conjunction with 'F9' key, sometimes not. Give it a try by itself and use it. If not hold the Fn key and hit F9 and try again.

I want to disable my touch pad.

There may be an Fn-Key combination that allows you to toggle between ON and OFF. (maybe Fn-F9). The relevant key should have a picture of a touch pad.

I have an Acer Aspire 5517. Just the other day, my touchpad and keyboard stopped working. What do I do?

1 . Look for Fn function key - Most laptops have this special key Fn that is next to the Ctrl key on the keyboard. It should have a blue or green color, easy to find.

2 . Look for F1 to F12 functions keys, they are on the top row of the keypad. Look for one has an icon that looks like the touch pad, which is to control the touch pad of your laptop. It maybe F8 or F9 depends on each make of your laptop. These function keys also control the brightness, sound, wireless etc.

3 . Now hold down the Fn key and the F10 key to enable the touch pad, in this example, the Toshiba laptops. You press them again to disable it

4 . If none of the above works, plug in an USB mouse, then check into the Control Panel -> touch pad or mouse configurations. Also, check Device Manager if the touch pad driver is installed and working properly.

Thanks.Have a great day.

FN + F9 should enable / disable the touchpad goto control panel - mouse - and see if you can change disable/enable touch pad from there Otherwise post back what windows version you have
Touchpads
you can enable and disable the touchpads Touchpad: - to enable or disable a touch pad/pointing device from the Start Menu > control panel > Change to classic view - {on left hand menu} click on the mouse icon Mouse Properties dialog box, click "Device Settings tab" select the device click to Enable or Disable OR You may need to enable in the bios/setup menu - as the PC boots - you should get a message on how to get into the bios/setup - usually using F2 or DEL Key or F10 see if touch pad needs to be enabled there OR one of the F keys may disable/enable - depends on the model of the Laptop - toshiba sometime use FN+F9 key

Did you try the FN key and F9...
That is what they say to disable your touchpad

You have a function key which is called Fn That key allows you to use the functions on the F series keys

So Fn then F9 should do the trick

My toshiba laptop cursor doesnot move when i touch the tray pad

Hi!

I had the same problem after my fat cat sat on my keyboard. This is how I fixed it. At the top of the keyboard there is a F9 key. If you look closely at this key, it also has two pictures of the mouse pad. This key is a toggle that turns the mouse pad on and off. Down near the lower left corner of the keyboard is a key marked FN. Hold down the FN key and press the F9 key. That will turn the mouse pad back on.
