Question about Refrigerators

1 Answer

Fridge Problem My fridge keeps turning off intermittently. It might be alright and stay on for a few days then it will just turn off. There is a reset button on the back which turns it back on again. I thought it might have been from the door not closing properly and maybe the motor had some sort of shut-off that you could then reset with the button on the back, but it will also turn off after it has been running for a few days and not opened. I have looked at the seal and it looks fine. Any help you could give me would be much appreciated. Thanks

1. Clean the condenser coil.
2. Have the refrigerant pressure checked
3. If your refrig. has an autodefrost timer it may be failing.
4. The sealed compressor unit may be going.

hope these help

LG Refrigerator model LFC20740ST Freezer is fine, but Refrigerator is not cold.

Try adjusting the thermostat knob up a bit, it should be near the leds, maybe under a cover. Seveen years is not very old but where your health might be at risk from bacteria maybe you might be justified in looking at a new machine. I refuse to call in repair people any more, once something breaks it seems to become a habit, if electrical items cna be said to have habits.

Maybe a new thermostat /seitch might cure the problem

Freezer keeps building up ice on the condenser i think, and after a few day sitting the bottom part of the freezer freezes and the rest dont

Hi,

I'm not sure what system you have but typically there is a defrost timer on the back of the fridge. Often you can barely detect where it is, as only the stem sticks out.
What worries me is the amount of moisture in your fridge. You did not indicate how long to make the build up, check your seals carefully with a dollar bill.

Currently have a Kenmore 26 Porcelain plus. Fridge keeps beeping intermittently and ''warn'' and ''check food'' lights stay on. Both fridge and freezer seem to be working. Any suggestions?

Hello,

Hi,
This is common. Unplug it or turn off the circuit breaker for a full 5 minutes. Then plug-in and follow instructions. Things will be good

Fridge not keeping cold..

Check the coils underneath the fridge. Carefully vacuum and brush the coils clean. Usually there is a condenser fan near the compressor and condenser and a evaporator fan in the freezer. Make sure they both are turning.

Not cold enough. freezer works but fridge wont stay cold. i can shut it off for a day and it will work for two more. after that it quits again.

It you have a frost free fridge, then what is happening is that either the defrost element or the thermostat is faulty, causing ice to build up and block off cold air circulation to the fridge. Sometimes the frost builds up around the circulation fan and ceases it up.

That is why when you turn the fridge off for a day, the frost melts and drains out the back of your fridge and so the fridge works ok for a few days until the frost build up again.

Another thing to watch out for is the defrost timer. Sometimes they fail and stick on one cycle and dont advance through. pull your fridge out. The timer is located in the back near the compressor. There is normally a small dial on it. With the fridge turned off, you can twist the dial clockwise and you will hear the timer mechanism click through the different cycles. Make small ink mark on the timer dial. Say at 12 oclock. Turn fridge on. Chech the fridge every couple of hours and see if the mark advances through and does not get stuck in one position for lengthy periods of time. The defrost cycle should normally be around 8 hours and it repeats again.

Let me know if you need more help with the defrost element or thermostat. But it is best to get an experienced repairer to change those.

Good luck

Fridge not staying cold

did you let the fridge stay in it's new place for 24 hours up right before turning it on?
Try turning it off for at least 24 hours and start it back up again.
If you moved it on its side the compressor oil flows into the lines and must beable to drain back down before using it.
If not you'll seeze the compressor.
not good.
