Clicking & Electrical Smell

I'm suddenly hearing a clicking noise and there is a burnt, electrical smell. Both the freezer and refrigerator seem to be cooling properly up to this point.

Heard some strange clicking noises, went to investigate and discovered an unfamiliar burned smell, like plastic coming from the refrigerator.  We are worried that it may be dangerous, especially since other Maytag performas have been recalled for starting fires.

Sounds like the relay on the compressor. Although this can just blow and is common you may find that the compressor windings have gone short circuit, ( in which case the compressor is u/s and will need replacing). The relay can usually be found under the cap where the cables attach to the compressor. some are push fit ( over 3 pins on the compressor normally) and some just look like a bottle cap with 3 wires coming off (which attach to the 3 pins on the compressor). A meter may show the short but there is very little resistance on the windings in the first place. There are lots of generic relays that will fit. Make sure you note what wires comes of where before getting a replacement, most euronic stores will carry them as do companies like SEME in the uk

the fan only controls air circulation. not the function of the motor. sounds like ur fridge is stuck in the defrost mode? check ur cold control thermostat with a multi meter for continuity. the fan does not run while in defrost mode, u can manually check ur defrost timer in the fridge by sticking a small screwdriver into the hole underneath it, and turn clockwise till u hear a click u should hear the fan and compressor come on if not turn 1 more click?

the start device is cooked.pull out the machine and unplug it,remove the bottom panel in the rear and you'll see the compressor,on the side of it you'll see the start device, remove the clip and slide it off the compressor.read the instructions with the new device and install it.if you open the fridge door, look up on the right side wall near the ceiling you'll see the full model number, you need that to get the correct part, you can send it to me or give it to your parts store.the same thing happened to me but i was lucky i had the part in my van, good luck

My refrigerator has a burnt wire smell. The fans are running but the freezer doesn't seem as cold as it should be.

I'm guessing the condensor fan motor is not running. they smell like an electrical odor when they stop..remove back cover and see if something has gone into the blade area and stopped the motor from turning. if so, remove it ..if not, spin the blade and see if motor starts..if so, order new motor..you can use a floor fan to blow air towards compressor until you get a motor

Smelt burning smell in the morning stopped cooling

I suspect the start relay burnt on the compressor. Now the compressor can not turn on. You need to repalce the relay.

Whirlpool side by side, clicking noise, strange smell from bottom

The clicking is from your compressor relay on the side of the compressor it has eather went bad or a condenser fan motor is not running this will cause the walls to be warm if the fan is running in the back try cleaning the coils hope this helps

Burning Smell

sounds like the motor is fried or seized up, which would explain that smell.
