Question about Panasonic PT-47WX49 47" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

Panasonic PT-51DX80A I have sound but no picture. I have removed all of the pc boards and touched up any solder cracks that I noticed. When re-installing and powering back up, the tubes glow but it must be just the heaters because they don't actually produce a picture. Any suggestions? Please email me camitchell0@lycos.com

I have a panasonic pt-53wx54 picture went black with a view vertical color lines then they went and it's now just black. sound is good no picture.. what do i need to do? thanks so much

This is one of several models that had a common problem.

If set comes on with sound and you after a minute or two see a faint odd band of noise top to bottom on the screen to the right side C509 which is a .047 cap at 200 volts is bad.

Cap is seen in attached photo(location marked and cap here gone).

The cap when you locate it from the C509 number which is on top and bottom of board may have a crack or not---it is the cause of this problem.

There is a hard way and a easy way to get at it--let me know and I will explain.

Pencil is point to location on Right side board seen from right side.

There are several brown caps here and some plugs here are removed.

I would not try operation of the set in this condition too long.

Panasonic projection tv pt-53wx52c no picture red light flashing 3 times have sound

Hi,
3 times red light flashing is an error code that indicates problem in convergence output section, please check and replace convergence output chips and pico fuse nearby. Chips replacement in circuit board requires soldering work and local tv repair shop will help you if you are not familiar with soldering.
Hope this will help.
Thanks.

Panasonic TV Shuts off by itself

I had the same problem , Good sign of a cold solder or cracked trace.

On my PT51HX41 after a long check with a magnifying glass I found the problem on the main board just below the AC daughter board there is a Blue rectangular box (relay R801) and it had two cracked solder joints.

I attempted a repair on my pt-53tw53 by replacing the 110 ic chip ( the one on the diagonal heat sink) but, I think I did a bad job of soldering. When I tested the set when turning the power on the set...

You can repair any of the traces with small wires from the affected pin to the next componnent on that trace. To remove the board label all wires that you disconnect. There are "bridge" connectors that connect the signal bd and main bd. these lift up off the main board and will stay attached to the board youre working on. If you need further info please let me know. Also use solder wick to remove the solder and get a small tip solder iron 30watt from radio shack. The proper way to solder is (1) allow the iron to heat up. (2) touch the hot tip to the pin on one side and then briefly touch the solder to the other side of that pin so the solder flows around the pin. Use the solder sparingly so you dont bridge the pins with solder. (3) always check your work with a magnifying glass to insure the pins arent bridged.

Check the vertial output IC. either for defective solder or defective IC. This model has a feature if the vertical output IC fails for any reason the picture tubes blank out as a safety issue.Thereby giving no picture but audio still functions.

If you are using your TV's internal speakers, then you have a loose connection inside your TV more than likely on your audio output IC. Re solder all connections on your audio output IC's. To locate your IC, trace your speaker wire back to the circuit board.

PANASONIC PT-51DX80A

Normally, the main cause of this problem is the solder connection under the convergence IC's.
You would see rings around the legs that have bad solder joints.
My shop would replace both of the IC's.
I don't have a schematic in front of me, but, I'm pretty sure the IC's are STK392-110. We use the STK392-150 in place of them since they are a heartier IC.
When replacing these IC's, remember to use semiconductor compound on the back side of the IC when placing the parts against the heat sink.
Any questions, respond to this post and I will reply.

First there are a few questions. Did You disconnect fly back xformer (black honeycomb looking deal with red large gauge wires)? Did you make sure your solder splash didn't bleed over on causing shorted amplfier(s)? Have you identified what component has went home to ma ma? You should see discoloration on either board, replace blown fuse power board replace damage part(s) and go over real good before applying power.
