8 year old washer will not start. After one load finished I started a second load. The dryer on the same outlet was fine. All functions on the dial will not work, water, sping, etc. My gut tells me it's the dial. Help please. I don't want to spend almost 3 g's on a new red pair of Whirlpools my wife wants.

Re: Maytag washer will not start
At the very least you should be getting water in as long as power is good open the back panel ( 3 screws along the top of control), look at the connection where the line cord is coming in. very suspicious that totally dead

For being 10 years old...I'd say R.I.P Neptune. A 10-year-old dryer is going to cost you more in repairs than the cost of a new machine! And even if it is cheap enough to fix, the parts may be no longer available. I used to work at the Harrisburg PA Sears Parts/Service Center...trust me...I know.
Hi..I had the same problem yesterday...the maching would start when I pushed the button and then stop..I had to push the button again to get it going..My stacked set is around 8 years old.
Here's what we did..moved the washer away from the water source and unscrewed the water intake lines..there is a little screen there...took the screen out of both hot and cold lines..one screen has some debris in it..the other was almost completely blocked..we are on a well and sometimes dirt..etc..gets in the lines..
Today no problems doing the laundry..its working like new..
My Maytag® Neptune® washer filled with water, but it won't spin or drain-what now?
Start by making sure the machine is plugged into a live (working)
electrical outlet. Then check the appropriate circuit breaker and reset
it if necessary (or check the fuse if you have a fuse box).
Next, inspect the drain hoses and remove any kinks. Take a look at the
drain, too - if it's clogged, call your usual drain service person.
Then close the washer door and firmly press the START/STOP button. In a
few moments, after the door locks, the washer should begin to spin.
(For your safety, the washer will not tumble or spin unless the door is
closed and locked.)
