The driver has been installed but when I want to select a clip to import to the computer the only thing seen on the camera screen is PC connect. Suggestions?

  • Will61 Mar 18, 2008

Thanks! Yes I know the camera has a USB Port. I have downloaded the Digital VideoV25Meng that comes with the camera. It tells me that I have the right operating system OS x 10.3.9 . Now I am sitting with play screen that says PC connect.

  • Will61 Mar 18, 2008

No I can't copy a clip to my Mac. When I switch to this playback mode the screen says PC connect.

This camera comes with USB, so it works with Mac without problem. Connect your camera to the Mac with USB cable. install the driver for Mac, Also Digital Video software. Its in the same CD, If you cant locate your disk you dont have to worry, you can download the driver, Digital video software and the User's Guide free of charge.
here is the link for driver, software and guide

If you want to use the camera to send image of yourself in real time to your son. You might want to consider buying a webcamera, they dont cost alot.

I have a sony handy cam DCR - DVD105, I want to know all the ways of being able to connect it to a laptop and extract the files to use in other softwares, like Window's Movie Maker, or Power Direct 09.

How to load Mini DVD to Mac
  • Though Mini DVD can not be played back in Mac slot loading player, we have other ways to load Mini DVD to Mac.
  • Method 1 If Mini DVD camcorder has FireWire or USB; just connect the Mini DVD camcorder to Mac using FireWire, or USB to load Mini DVD to Mac.
  • Method 2 If Mini DVD camcorder has not FireWire or USB; just shop for external mini-DVD drive that uses either a USB or Firewire connector cable, and then connect the external mini-DVD drive to your Mac and install any extra software that came with it. Insert the mini-DVD into the external drive, and then access the files on the mini-DVD as you normally would to load Mini DVD to Mac.
  • Method 3 If Mini DVD camcorder has not FireWire or USB; buy an adapter that converts a mini-DVD to a normal DVD by adding on a circular plastic piece that emulates the full size of a regular DVD. Attach the adapter to the mini-DVD and load it into the Mac's DVD drive to access the files. (Check the specifications of the adapter before purchasing, as several on the market do not work in vertical-loading drives like those found on the MacBook Pro.)
  • Method 4 If Mini DVD camcorder has not FireWire or USB and you don't want to buy a separate external drive or full-size adapter either, but you do have access to a PC, you can transfer the files on the mini-DVD onto the PC, then put them onto a USB flash drive, which will work on your Mac.

Most laptops use a 4 pin firewire connection as does your Canon.
Get a 4 pin to 4 pin firewire cable to connect. I assuma it's a PC and not a Mac, so use Windows Movie Maker to capture.

All editing applications can be user selected for PAL or NTSC, so stick with NTSC in MMaker.
You cannot convert video standards sucessfully simply by selecting PAL if the source is NTSC. You require specialist software or hardware conversions.

As a side point if you create an NTSC DVD it will play on PAL equipment.

Hello,

as far as I know, you can only save photos on the SD card.
You can capture the video from the tape to your PC via Firewire interface, connect the Firewire cable to the DV connector on your camera and your computer's firewire port and capture it with a program called WinDV.
About the DVD recorder, often it it the case with them that you have to 'finalize' the DVD before it can be read on a PC/Mac

Not sure what cord to use to connect my mini dv to my mac.

Depends on the Mac unit you have. If your MAC has a firewire 400 port, then use the firewire cable that came with your camera. Just connect the cable to the camera and the other end to the mac. iMovieHD is already loaded - with the camcorder in "Play" mode, you will "Import" the video.
If your Mac does not have a firewire 400 and just a firewire 800, you need an adapter. Click on this link to see that adapter.
Thank you for using Fixya and your generous rating will be much appreciated.

Cannot download video, only Card pictures

I do not know MACs, but a standard 4-pin to 6-pin firewire (IEEE1394) is needed. On Windows XP, plug it in, run Windows Movemaker and you are good to go. By the way, a "DV cable" is a firewire cable.

If your MAC cannot "see" your camcorder, try another firewire device to see if your MAC is the culprit, or drag your camcorder and firewire cable to a friend's PC running Windows XP and see if it works.

Camcorder importing - no manual

This is the same unit I have. Simply connect a 4-pin to 4-pin Firewire cable between the computer and the camera. (Port is under the lens, under a smal rubber cap. Once the connection is made, turn on the camera, and it should appear on your mac as a new fixed drive. Import your files normally from there.

Hope this helps!

Cannot transfer from camcorder to computer.

Hi,
make sure you are using 4 pin to 4pin firewire which looks like this:

After connecting,
Switch on the Cam.
Open Windows Movie Maker and import video from device.

Downloading to computer to burn to a dvd

I have a zr300. You need a firewire connection and a firewire cable to download the contents of your minidv tape for burning. You can not do that with a usb cable. USB cable can only download photos and videos from your memory card not from the tape.

Saving Dv tape to computer? Getting computer to see camera?

The USB connection is for getting still images (photos) off the camcorder. To get moving images (video) off the camcorder, you must use a FireWire cable (IEEE 1394). The cable only costs about $15. But you need to have a FireWire port on your computer to plug it into -- if you don't have one, you'll have to install a FireWire card. Check someplace like TigerDirect computer parts supplier, they are only $15 to $60 now.

Or, if you don't want to open up your computer to install a FireWire card, you can buy a Pinnacle MovieBox for $120. It just sits next to your computer, not inside. It is very easy to use and comes with great video editing software. You plug the FireWire from your camcorder into the front of the MovieBox, then plug the back of the MovieBox into your computer with USB.

Plus, you can use the MovieBox to record from your VCR or DVD player into your computer! For that, you'll need the standard red/white/yellow cables.

In fact, if your camcorder has those cables, you can use them to go thru the MovieBox, and save yourself the cost of the FireWire cable. But I think FireWire will give better quality than the red/white/yellow cable.
