Right clicking on the windows desktop will allow you to bring up the properties, and then the display settings. Here is where you can change from 640x480 to a higher res. If higher than that is not available, it means you are running a generic video driver and not the video drivers intended for your laptop model. In this case, reload your video drivers for full functionality.

I hope that helps.

Tips on how to adjust computer's resolution and what needs to be considered

Everybody likes a nice looking display but of course it's beyond our control. Check out the things that we need to consider about the resolution adjustment.
  1. The highest resolution of the monitor.
  2. The resolution of the Video card.
Why? The monitor can only handle a limited resolution let's say you have a monitor that has a resolution of 800X600 and you have a video card with a resolution of 1280X1024, you can increase the resolution up to 1280X1024 but since your computer can only handle up to 800X600 the display will look really bad like a double vision. I hope you got the Logic of that. For example, personally, my built computer is not a high-end type of computer and the video card I'm using is a 512MB 2048x1536 but since my monitor can only handle 1024x768, that's what my resolution is. I move it up to a higher resolution, I get a black screen. Now, if you want to increase the resolution of your computer consider both the monitor and the video card. Of course it would be best if both the video card and the monitor has equivalent resolution or much better the monitor to have a higher resolution than the video card for upgrade purposes.

Now, to adjust the computer's resolution:
  1. Right Click on your desktop.
  2. Click on Personalize.
  3. Click on the Settings tab.
  4. There you will find the drop down for the resolution of the video card.
  5. Select the desired resolution. The higher the resolution, the finer it looks.
  6. If it gets blurry, black, or simply goes bad or grainy, it means that the monitor cannot handle that certain resolution, so lower it down.
  7. Click Apply.
  8. Click OK.
There you go! Should you have any questions feel free to post a reply on this post and I'll be more than happy to help you out with it. Thank you for choosing FixYa! Have a good one. A 4 thumbs up and a comment will be greatly appreciated.

My laptop screen resolution is already set to 1200 *600 and windows 8 does not support in that screen resolution they want to 1200 *768 what can i do

  1. Open Screen Resolution by swiping in from the right edge of the screen, tapping Search (or if you're using a mouse, pointing to the upper-right corner of the screen, moving the mouse pointer down, and then clicking Search), entering Display in the search box, tapping or clicking Settings, and then tapping or clicking Display.

  2. Tap or click Adjust resolution.

  3. Tap or click the Resolution list and find the resolution marked (Recommended). This is your monitor's native resolution-usually the highest resolution your monitor can support.

Screen Resolution in Control Panel shows the recommended resolution for your monitor.

Monitors can support resolutions that are lower than their native resolutions, but text won't look as sharp and the display might be small, centered on the screen, edged with black, or stretched.

My system is workin properly but the screen resolution is very dim it seems to be very light ..... even we can't read any thing on that. i checked my monitor with another cpu its working properly can...

IT IS NOT HARDWARE PROBLEM
Change screen resolution

Screen resolution refers to the clarity of the text and images on your screen. At higher resolutions, items appear sharper. They also appear smaller, so more items fit on the screen. At lower resolutions, fewer items fit on the screen, but they are larger and easier to see. At very low resolutions, however, images might have jagged edges.

For example, 640 × 480 is a lower screen resolution, and 1600 × 1200 is a higher one. CRT monitors generally display a resolution of 800 × 600 or 1024 × 768. LCD monitors can better support the higher resolutions. Whether you can increase your screen resolution depends on the size and capability of your monitor and the type of video card you have.

The precision of printouts can be improved by changing scanning resolution.
The higher the scanning resolution is, the more precise the scanned images are represented, however, the file size gets larger.
The scanning resolution can be changed before scanning photos.
Note: When the scanning resolution is doubled, the image data size will be quadrupled.
