Ram upgrade What do you mean by an "error later" on the T4200? I am not clear, I can or cannot use 2@512 + 1@256? They have to all be equal in size or not? The T3624 specifically says it can take any combination of memory up to 2GB. Does it really not matter if I put a bigger or smaller amount in the 1st slot?

In most cases if you put of not thesame capacity in any computer later will create further problems. it can damage the other memory or both and the worse is when also the motherboard will also damage.

That is why im telling you this. Please prevent inserting memory of two or three different capacity. You should not do that.

You should select etheir use all 256mb or all 512mb or all 1gb.

in the T4200 since max. is 1.5gb, either use 3-512mb if can carry the maximum if not , then use only 2-512mb.

in T3624 since max is 2GB. You can try 2-1gb if can carry the maximum if not, use only 1-1gb.

You can use or inserting at different capacity but is at your own risk. "

Ps. does no matter either you put smaller or bigger in first slot.

Dell computer.5 yrs.old. Very, very, slow. What can be done? Have dial up internet service. Also, what does memory upgrade mean?

There's nothing you can do about your internet speed, dial up is dial up and is known to be slow. If you want fast internet then you would need broadband.

A memory upgrade would speed up the overall performance of the PC. For example: the computer may take 5 minutes to fully boot up and programs taking time to launch. This would not fully resolve but help it to be more responsive.

A memory upgrade is always recommended by me. I expect that your computer can be probably maxed out to 2GB of memory.

System is very slow

You have to upgrade your RAM sir if you know to remove the side cover of your tower (cabinet) you can easily find out the RAM i will send a picture of the RAM there are 3 types of RAM SD,DDR1, DDR2 you have to find the type of your RAM first.
1. if you have 2 cuts in your RAM its SD RAM692c6b0.jpg 2. If you have only one cut in the middle it is calles DDR1 RAM

818e4cd.jpg 3. If you have 1 large chip followed by 4 medim sized chips and one small chip it is DDR 2 RAM
if you have 256MB upgrade it to 1 or 2 GB then the system will be faster. replace the RAM with DDR2 RAM.20b2388.jpg

Upgrading ram in a dell 5150 do I need to install 2 menory boards of the same size at the same time. I have two 256 mb and I am trying to install 1 512 mb to expand the menory to 1 gb It works for awhile...

you have 4 memory connectors. the maximum memory the computer supports is 4 GB. it is recomended that you install in pairs, for some reasons, but i have installed and i have seen it doesnot matter at all. you can go ahead and install the memory for whatever size on the computer. make sure the bus speed should be either 400 or 533 MHZ. and yoou never explained the error message. when you upgrade the ram you will get a message the system memory has changed press f1 to continue or f2 for setup just press f1. if the error message is in windows after you click on your name it has nothing to do with your memory. if its before that. than try to reseat the memory. installing memory in non pairs doesnot cause any problem most of the time. explain the error message only than i can guide you furthur.

Installing a third RAM stick causes failure to boot Vista. All RAM sticks work, one at a time or in pairs, in any combination of sockets, but adding a third stick causes blue screen of death and adding a...

As all clarification requests, you should be more specific so we can help you. Now your problem could most probably be that the third RAM you want to put does not comply for dual channel. If you want to use three DIMMs in a dual-channel configuration, install a matched pair of DIMMs equal in speed and size in DIMM 0 (blue) and DIMM 1 (black) of channel A. Install a DIMM equal in speed and total size of the DIMMs installed in channel A in either DIMM 0 or DIMM 1 of channel B. Your best bet is to have all your RAM in identical configurations of bus speed and size.
