What other thing do you think I should change because I took out the board and check all the resistors they ohm out ok but when I go to adjust convergence the cross hair do not move at all and it gets to a point that the word max comes out that means it think it is moving but it is not I can not swap colors like adjust the red but no blue I know the green is set you can not mess with it. Thanks for the reply please let me know what I should look for thanks.

I had a similar problem, that was solved by re-soldering the ICs on the main board at the base of the TV. There are two ICs that are attached to two large heat sinks and one had a open connection to the main board. If you gently tap on each heat sink while observing the picture you will find the open circuit.

Now are you able to do a multiconvergence instead of the center alignments? Meaning do you have the screen which shows many crosses that you can go to the corners and sides? This control should be below the Red and Blue adjustments. It could be called Red Multiconverg and same for Blue Multi.

  • Lashawn Robinson Mar 19, 2008

Ok, now my question is what happens when you are in then 1,3,7,9 area? Does it converge in these area? It do not have to be in a straight line from one side to the other only all colors have to lign up in there area. Is this happening?

  • Lashawn Robinson Mar 19, 2008

If every point lines up with no problem then you have to remember to save before leaving. Also it looks from the pic that there is a bow in the top bottom and sides. This can be cause by low ohm resistor not being replaced. Did you use the same IC' or did you go up in value?

Convergence is good only in the center. Also adjustable only in the center From the center out the picture is distorted and bowed.

Projection sets have two very common problems.

The first common problem is convergence

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony, Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer, Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.
You can get more information and a DIY convergenece repair kit with instructions from the link below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

*Screen Looks 3-D
*Colors wont align
*Screen may look distorted or warped
*No Audio/Video - TV Shuts down - May also make a constant chirping sound

Problem #2 - Another common problem is dull or washed out video.

Your set may have one or more of the following symptoms....

*Dull looking picture
*White looking picture
*Halos around objects
*Red/Orange looking picture

Chances are the 4.7 ohm 1/2 watt resistors are open and the s.5 amp picos in line with the resistors may be open as well.

Picture Problem!! and its not convergence (Double vision except for middle of screen)

Could be pin correction circuit or your picture tubes could be worn out . Sometimes when the crt's get weak the edges seem not as clear as the center of the screen . Give model number if you think the pin correction may be your problem but, the tv is pretty old and avg. life for them is 12 to 15 years when the picture tubes start to degrade . Good luck

Yellowing screen off-center - not a convergence issue

You might want to try the optic lens adjustment screw on the side of each crt. Mark them before moving.

My projection tv picture is messed up

I'm not to sure what exactly is wrong with your tv, but I do know that it is NOT the convergence board. I have the same problem with the same model and was told to replace the board. I waisted $85 bucks. The only other thing that I can figure is it must be the STK's inside the TV. If you fix yours please repost and let me know so i can fix mine.

Convergence and picture problems

This TV probably uses two convergence IC Packs that will need to be replaced and be re-converged. There may also be a resistor or two that may need replacing as well. The projection tubes should last another 3 years or so.
