Yes, I have the same problem.

Indicator on the LCD reads,'movie recording disabled'.

    My model is DCR-SR40.

The info on the manual did not help.

What can I enable movie recording?

I fixed mine, On a Sony DVD/DVR 108 Handicam, When it says Video recording disabled , Its the disc and not the camera. Put in a new disc, turn it on and format it for playback on various devises and your ready to go.

Go to 'Home', then.. 'movie media set,' then.. 'INT. Memory' and it should work. The above ^^^ did not work for me. Hope this works for you! :-)

I have a DSC-S30 (Hard Disc) camcorder, and the same message came up. I've tried to reset it, and, as expected, it simply put all settings back to default. This didn't solve the problem. The camera has never been dropped or otherwise damaged. I am able to view playback of all videos, but cannot record at all. I was also able to burn DVDs from the contents of the hard drive, through the camcorders' cradle to my DVD burner.
I really can't believe that no one has actually solved this problem without simply re-formating. Maybe that's the only solution, but I'd like to know why.
Thanks for further constructive responses.

The same thing just happened to me. I put in a new dvd and problem solved. The original disk, however, seems to be damaged and I am unable to view it or finalize it.

Posted on Sep 26, 2008

I think you need to try a new dvd disk... something happened to the disk you recorded on.

Guys hope you all found the solution like me who had same issue. if you noticed, it says about the aspect ratio and that means the formated disc aspect ratio is not compatible with the aspect ratio your camera need. so re-formating the dvd with right aspect ratio solved the problem quickly and we have peace.

How do you get rid of movie disabled on a sony video camera

The movie recording error message indicates that the Camcorder is not in a position to record videos. It may be due to shake, free space, corruption in the folder structure, bad sectors in the HDD.
Please follow the below steps and check the operation. Each step is a possible resolution, so please perform one by one and check the operation.
  • Place the Camcorder in a steady surface and press the record button.
  • Please press the reset button on the Camcorder and check if that helps.
Make sure that you have turned ON the Camcorder while pressing the reset button.. You can locate the reset button from the below figure.

  • If the issue persists again, format the HDD of the Camcorder and check the operation.
To format the HDD of the Camcordeer, you can use the HDD FORMAT option under the HDD set
Note:Formatting the HDD will erase all previously recorded videos and images from the Camcorder.
I hope this will resolve the issue

Camera shows hd movie recording disableD

HD movie recording disabled: SOLVED for 2 HDRSR5's (work and home): After copying all movies to computer, "DELETE ALL" from HD view. Evidentally if you have been deleting movies using computer, the still images used for 'scene selections' remain and fill its capacity. You must be in HD view when choosing Delete All (that is, rather than just deleting all Standard movie clips)

Sony Handycam says movie recording disabled. How did this happen and how do I undo it?

Follow this procedure to troubleshoot when Recording disabled is displayed by the camcorder.
  1. Verify the disc being used has not been finalized. It is not possible to record additional video on a finalized disc.
  2. Attempt to record on a different disc.

How can i fix the "movie Recording Disabled" on sony DCR-DVD108?

Hi there. I undertand how upset you must be. I would be if it happened to me. Did you check the manual for this error code?

If you didn't, I'll tell you what it means. It means one of 2 things: 1) you have a bad disk or:
2) you are trying to use a disk that has been finalized. Once a disk has been finalized, it cannot be recorded on.

I'm sorry, I know it's a bummer, and it's not what you wanted to hear, but it happens occasionally. There is no fix for it. You just have to get a new disk and record it again.

Thanks for using FixYa, and if you have any further questions, just comment back. If you don't mind, please rate my solution a fixya.

Video transfer on to dvd

You will need to fit a video capture card to your PC. Most cheap TV cards have video input. Connect the video and audio output from the camera to the PC card, start the camera on playback and record the video on PC.

It will probably record as an avi file which can be converted to DVD format using for example Nero though there are many progs agailable for free on the web. Burn the files to DVD.

Good luck
