No power lights

HP 4L acts like the power has been turned off but it has no switch. It just stopped working. Is there a fuse or breaker?

My 4L went dead a few days ago. Both fuses are good. Can't find any other problem. Any suggestions?

    Thanks

I just rearranged my home office and when I went to set up the computer my power was gone, lights gone too. When I attempt the print command, the message comes up "printer out of paper". The paper tray is full.

Is this the end of my reliable laserjet 4L?

When I plug the printer, it turns on first, and then turns off a few seconds later. It had been working fine for a long time. What is wrong? I would appreciate it if someone could give me any suggestions. Thank you.

I went out of town. Turned my PC off & also turned the power strip off. When I turned power strip on & PC on my HP LaserJet 4L will on turn on & no lights. If their is a fuse I can't find it or understand where it is from a spec.

    Help please!! ;o) PJ

Same problem: turned power off and on, unplugged and replugged, held down blue button several times, but still no power/lights to printer.

Can someone rescan the document of the troubleshooting diagram and post it again? I can not read it.

    Thanks!

I purchased this printer along with a computer to which it was connected and had been working. Since I brought it home it does not seem that it can turn on, nor can the computer talk with it. I can't find a standard Power On button and there are no lights or indicators... Help.

I had the same problem and here is how I fixed it. Well, it's not really fixed but I circumvented the problem. I had my 4L unplugged for months because I was using an Okidata for a while. When I plugged in the 4L it wouldn't power up anymore. It worked when I put it storage, but not now. I tried plugging it in and out so much I got to the point where I was going to toss it. No help on line, nothing in the manuals. AHhhhh!
Then on a hunch I tried this...
I plugged the thing in and let it sit for hours. Then I unplugged it. After some time (hours) I plugged it back in and let it sit for hours. Then unplugged again for hours. Then plugged back in and I saw all the lights flash for a brief moment, but then they all went off. I just kept repeating this (it will take at least a whole day or more), and eventually when I plugged it back in it came to life. At this point DON'T UNPLUG IT!
Now...I was able to duplicate this fix because I recently moved and the thing was unplugged again for a few days. Plugged it back in at my new house and guess what, yea..same problem, but I went through the same procedure and it worked again.
Now it will not be unplugged.

Does anyone know if there is a battery that holds any memory on this model? I've had my 4L for at least 10 years. If so, could this be a possible culprit? Thanks.. ... just guessing....

I have the same problem of the hp4l printer does not power up after being plugged into AC power. Took the printer a part and pulled the 2 fuses (125V 10A and 2.5A) out and continuity tested them OK. Be sure you put the fuses back correctly as they are different amp ratings. Didn't find anything to indicate a timer module that turns off the printer due to inactivity so I just put everything back together and it powered up fine. Prnted about 10 pages of different documents and just let it stay plugged in to my powerstrip. Power off the strip when I went to bed but the hp4sl did not repower backup. Dead again.

One more shot at taking it all a part again and while I did see the lights flash on for a 2 secs, the printer never recovered power again. I'll let it rest a day or two before I toss it. Not sure I want to spend time on going around the powersave function but since I'm retired now I still might take another crack at it.

BTW, does any one know what the reset button that on the parallel printer port connection is for? I noticed it when I was looking over the main board to see what docs that were silkscreened on the circuit board and found reset sw. It's not an easy switch to hit but when I did hit it, nothing happened.

HP 4L laser printer - no power indicators showing -

there is not a fuse in the printers main board but i can say that there is circuit breaker on the board like fuse only instead of fuse there is a ic that ic has to be replaced if major damage the cost may vary other wise the ic is just under 1$ THATS IS.IF ANY ENGINEER DOES HE WILL CHARGE HIS SERVICE FOR THAT.BUT CALLING A ENGINEER IS ADVISABLE AS HE WILL ALSO CHECK OUT ANY OTHER PART GOING TO BE SHORT IN NEAR BY COMING DAYS.

it's possible that the power switch alone just needs cleaning. Take it apart down to seeing the copper contacts and then polish the copper contacts with emory cloth.
