remove the CPU side door and check Fan is rotating on Processor if not it may not rotate due to heavy dust inside. ( clean it and refix it)
Check SMPS Fan is rotating or not..
If fans or not rotating Heat Builds up then computer shuts down itself.
If both fans are working...Just Open BIOS window by press DEL button continuosly while startup and wait for 2 to 3 minutes If the computer shuts down Itself in BIOS Window also then we can confirm issue with Hardware.
If Computer not shutting down in BIOS Window then issue with Operating System Boot files corrupted.
While Turn ON the system press F8 to enter in Safe Mode.
Open command prompt by clicking on
Start >. RUN >> type cmd >> then press enter.
now type chkdsk /f
now press Y
then reboot PC it fixes the Boot files error then your PC works perfectly.
My guess would be ;-
A power supply problem with the battery and/or power adapter
The most likely one.
The CPU is overheating and shutting down and if you wait a while and it will power it up again, it will then run for a while and shut down again.
This can be caused by a faulty fan (its not spinning and needs to be replaced) or the vents are clogged with dust (needs to be cleaned and you may need to remove the fan assembly to do this).
same laptop but intel core 2 duo, and I got the same problem , my touch pad is very hot sometime and I have the cooling fan underneath the laptop it's help! and after that like couple weeks later my laptop was death it wasn't boot the vista. it shown the options like 1. fix the ..... 2. start normally.
when I choose No.1, the screen turn BLANK all day and nothing changed and I power shut down and choose No.2, then it boot!! But the programs were not boot well and stuck like not completed. SO what's wrong with it???
Try running it without the battery. Sometimes an IBM battery can develop a short and cause this. If it still does it without the battery, I'm afraid it's the power management chip on the motherboard, and the motherboard will need to be replaced.
