I too have just started experiencing this problem. Was in the middle of taking photos yesterday and the screen went blank. I can see the pics taken when I view the card on my computer. Also, my camera seems to be trying to take a picture when I turn it on. Can hear it adjusting like it is trying to focus and the flash is going off. Very strange. Anyone know what this can be?

I don't have the CD for the FinePix Viewer. Is this software available to download

You don't need any special software.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or, despite what said first, you can use any photo cataloging program such as Picasa.

The other programs on your computer don't work with your camera. You need to download the files to either your desktop or a folder you create on your desktop. Then, try opening them.

How do you get the dates on the photos to download?

Well, you don't say what camera you are using but all the data is included with the picture as "metadata". This can be opened by many photo editing programs simply by right-clicking and choosing info.
