Re: RCA RS1285 Shelf System Problem
If you can open up the unit and see the CD lens, try cleaning it using a cotton swab and alcohol. The "no disk" message indicates that the optics assembly can not detect a disk. Sometimes this is due to dirt on the lens. If cleaning does not resolve the problem, the optics will need to be replaced.

There is no AUX input on your system. That is a headphone output jack, not an input. There appears to be an AUX button on the repmote, but the manual indicated that it does not work. See the link below. Sorry for the bad news. http://www.manualslib.com/manual/313546/Rca-Rs1285.html?page=6#manual
The Laser Pickup Assembly is the problem, the laser is weak, or the pladder motor is bad, One possible option is cleaning the laser lens with a Q-Tip and rubbing alcohol that might restore the system to normal status. The only other option is to have the assembly replaced, a very pricey solution.
Hello Alison hi, we need to check two parts to see which is the problem section why your player wont read.
Does your CD spins normally, check your player if the cd spins normally, if you can see the disk spinning, take note of the spin, is it to slow? An abnormal disk spin has problems with its spindle motor assembly.
Does your CD spins and then slow down to a stops, did not read the disk. This is caused by two things, FIRST: your CD player lens needs cleaning, you can buy a CD lens cleaner and use it to clean the lens, SECOND: The lens has degraded or worn out due to use and time, this needs a replacement lens assembly.
This things are way beyond a normal user, I suggest you send it for service. Sorry, there are no user serviceable parts here.
