Question about Dell Dimension 3000 PC Desktop

Windows Xp Reinstalled Xp.. Cant change resolution on Monitor or connect to internet.

You need to install your computers drivers.

You noted that you have a dimension 3000.

You need videocard drivers to change resolution and networkcard drivers to connect to internet.

Il look for the drivers you need a post them in a minute If i find them.

Can you open Google Chrome? What page? Change your home page in Internet Options for IE. You only have IE? Is your computer connected to the Internet?

Tip

Flickering LCD/CRT monitor screen or unstable image fix


If the screen flickers, make sure the display settings in Windows match the native resolution and refresh rate for the monitor. You can find the native resolution of a flat panel display in the specifications, in the printed material or on the box that came with the monitor. Some common native resolutions are 800 x 600, 1024 x 768, 1920 x 1080, and 1680 x 1050. To find out more about optimal screen resolutions see my tip on resolutions here.

The most common refresh rate for LCD monitors is 60 Hz. This normally cannot be changed for flat panel displays using Plug and Play settings. However, if you are using special video software to increase or decrease the refresh rate, change the refresh rate to match the default refresh rate specification of the monitor. To find out more about refresh rates see my tip here.

STEP 1
To change the screen resolution and refresh rate settings in Windows, do the following:
- In Windows XP
See my tip on setting up the optimum screen resolution for Windows XP here.

- In Windows Vista
1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel .
2. Find the Appearance and Personalization area, and click Adjust Screen Resolution .
3. Move the slider bar until the screen resolution matches the native resolution.
4. Click Advanced settings, and then click the Monitor tab.
5. Select the Screen refresh rate that matches the default rate for your monitor (if it is not already selected).
6. Click OK, and then click OK again.

If you cannot select the native resolution or the native resolution is unavailable, continue to the next step to update the drivers for the graphics adapter on the computer.

You can get the latest updated video drivers from the video hardware manufacturer's Web site. Here is a list showing some of the video hardware websites:

Check for NVIDIA video driver updates at NVIDIA Home Page.
Check for ATI/AMD video driver updates at ATI Home Page.
Check for Intel video support and downloads, Intel Downloads.

After updating the video drivers, go back to Step 1 and try to change the screen resolution again.
Note: If you cannot select the native resolution after updating the video drivers, the graphics adapter in the computer might not support that resolution and may need to be upgraded.

If after changing the resolution and updating video drivers the flickering persists then check the video cable connections. Unplug the cable and inspect the cable for damage. If the cable is damaged, replace it with a new cable. Try to use cables less than 3 meters (10 feet) long.

Monitors are sensitive to magnetic fields so have a look at the environment around the monitor. Speakers, florescent lights, fans, cell phones, radios, and any other electrical device can cause flickering. Temporarily move electrical items away from the monitor to see if they is producing a field that causes the flicker.

If the monitor has more than one type of connection available such as VGA, DVI, or HDMI, try a different type of connection.

To see if the video coming from the computer is causing the problem, temporarily connect the monitor to another computer. If the flicker is gone when the monitor is connected to another computer, the graphics adapter hardware on the first computer might need to be upgraded to use the monitor.

If however the flicker remains then the problem lies within the harware of the monitor itself and is not a software problem. If you have bought this monitor fairly recently then I suggest you take it back to the place of purchace and have them test it. Some monitors carry 3 year warranty support so if you bought it within the warranty period specified by the reseller I suggest you see if you can get refunded or have them swop it out.

Fixing 'Out of range', 'Format not supported' message


When the video card signal exceeds the frequency allowed for the monitor, the following error message may occur:
Sync out of Range, Out of range, Format not supported
SOLUTION (FROM HP):
To avoid the message, lower the resolution or vertical frequency of the video card.
Reboot the system and use the VGA mode to force the video card driver to lower its resolution. Follow these steps.
1. Shut down and restart the system.
For consumer systems such as HP Pavilion desktop PCs, push the Power button once.
For commercial systems such as HP business desktop PCs, hold down the Power button for five seconds.
2. Immediately after seeing the HP/Compaq logo screen, press F8 at system startup to initiate the bootup menu.
3. Scroll down to highlight Enable VGA Mode , and press ENTER .
4. After Microsoft Windows completes its bootup process, access the Display Properties and select a desired resolution, which is compatible to the connected monitor. Reboot

Reinstalled Windows XP on an old computer (DELL Dimension 2400) and the monitor won't display above basic resolution. Downloaded and reinstalled the monitor driver and still no good. Opened up START


According to the Dell Support web site the Dell Dimension 2400 has a built in Intel 3D extreme graphics adapter, assuming you are using this and not a PCI graphics card.

Go to the Intel Download Centre and run their Intel Driver Update Utility which will automatically scan your system for updated drivers for any installed or integrated Intel devices.

If the Intel Utility identifies an updated driver for your graphics adapter then download and install that which should enable you to configure a higher resolution for your display.

I have a Mag Innovision 2200W Monitor. I messed with the settings, and now I get a ''mode not supported'' error. The computer is running in the background, and works with other monitors, but not this one....

To resolve this issue connect a monitor which is working with the Computer. Now right click on desktop and select properties(if windows XP) or personalize/screen resolution (if windows vista / 7)-> Now click on settings tab (windows XP) or change the resolution of your monitor-> Choose a lower resolution rate maybe 800X600. Now try connecting the other monitor with your Computer and it will work.

If not then check for the refresh rate of your monitor, adjust it to 60 Hz. You can adjust refresh rate from settings tab->advanced button(in XP). Screen resolution/Display settings(under windows 7/vista)->Advanced setting->monitor tab ->refresh rate.

This will surely resolve your issue.

Install the Drivers. The CD you received is just the basic Windows Install. You can download the drivers at support.dell.com Install order: Desktop System Software (If available) Chipset utility Video Driver Audio Driver Network Driver then install applications like Roxio/Sonic and DVD player

In addition to installing the operating system (Windows XP) you will need to install the drivers for the system.  If you system is a Dell Dimension 1100 you can get the drivers from this link:

Driver installation order is:
Desktop system software (R121089.exe) Intel Chipset Utility (R96614.exe) Intel Video Driver (R104515.exe) Audio Driver (R105155.exe) Network Driver (R105786.exe) Modem Driver (R133743.exe or R73044.exe)
Once you have all the drivers installed, then you can install your applications and configure your internet connection.

MONITOR GOES BLANK


Did you recently change or install a program that would affect the resolution and card output? Try booting into safe mode by holding the "shift" key during boot. From there right-click on the desktop and hit 'properties'-> 'display properties' -> 'settings' , check your resolution and drop it to 800x600 and then reboot. If everything goes back in normally make sure you have the right windows drivers for your video card. You can also check the driver version and settings while you're in safe mode. Sometimes the windows update drivers can act screwy and I would recommend getting them directly from your card manufacturer.

Default monitor


Hi, if someone has upgraded your version of windows the only way to go back to a older version is installing your windows xp home edition cd, only problem with that is when you downgrade you lose everything, so you will have to make sure its all backed up. in regards to the monitor, different monitors can support different resolutions, if you cant change it up any its quite possible you got a more basic one, All the best John
