Question about WYSE Winterm 3350SE Network Terminal

1 Answer

Getting connected I have 2 winterm 3350se terminals (used). What do I need to get them connected to a home network (servers, desktop configuration, software, etc.)? I have never worked with terminals or servers before. E-mail me at: Docmax@juno.com Thanks.

Build a Windows server with DHCP and DNS and install Terminal Services. Open config on the winterms and setup the RDP client. Follow the prompts, it's pretty straight forward.

Term Service requires license after 90 days AFAIK, so you better have a plan by then.

Thats the easiest way to setup and connect, it is a far from complete solution, though.

I would suggest you google upgrading the winterm firmware using FTP, the older firmware is poor and slow.

Otherwise, these are great little termianls that will last forever and work well.

I cannot access the internet. I have an internet restricted message at the bottom right of IE on my WYSE S30. Dont know how to resolve/bypass this

Check the IP settings of the unit, IP address, gateway, and DNS... like alwayse start by setting it to DHCP or AUTOMATIC IP, that way you should receive all the right IP's from the DHCP server if that is not working than verify if you need to configure a PROXY SERVER

you should supply mor details for me to help (network infrastructure) good luck!

We have a DHCP problem with our thin client HP T5540, the network interface can't get an ip address fom the DHCP server for 30 seconds so it can't connect to citrix xen serverver for virtualization...

First of all check the configuration of the unit if it's AUTOMATIC IP/DHCP, if all OK you can test by configuring a static IP (use an unused IP in the server's DHCP table) than check the connectivity (ping something), if that works you have a server rule/DHCP or DNS problem

if it's still not working check the cabeling and connectors for connectivity (with a good cable tester) or an other (working) computer.

Good luck!

I wan to reboot my wyse 3150se what program do i need ??

Do you want to reset the configuration of the terminal box? If so, you may try unplug the power cord or pressing in a little hole on the back labeled as Reset. If you want to close the session with the server, you can logoff there in your terminal program (telnet, remote desktop, terminal emulator or a dial up terminal) or citrix.

How do i network my home pc with a wyse terminal.

OK,

That makes sense.

1. Physical network - Depending upon the distance between the terminal and the PC you have the choice of either wired or wireless. It is probably easiest as you have wired cards in both the PC and the terminal and the PC to buy a LAN switch, or use ports on your DSL router (I am assuming that they are also connecting out to the Internet?).

so, plug the PC and the terminal into the switch/DSL router using CAT5 Ethernet cables (straight through ones).

Assuming that you have a DSL router that is handing our DHCP addresses, ensure that both the PC and the terminal are both getting addresses via DHCP. You can easily check this by opening up a command (DOS) window and typing ipconfig. Check that you have an IP address on both boxes (typically 192.x.x.x or 10.x.x.x ranges unless default DSL router config has been changed). In the DOS window on the PC type "ping <remote address you got from terminal>" - you should get a response back if all is well.

2. Now you have connectivity between the PC and the Terminal, you need to get a remote desktop capability if I understood you correctly?

You could use either Windows remote desktop (in XP it is called something like remote assistance). I prefer VNC as it is quick, lightweight and free. You can google this and download both server and client apps.

This should get you into a situation where you can remotely control / view your PC desktop on your terminal. You can of course map drives from one to another.

Let me know if the above needs additional clarification, if it helps please leave feedback accordingly

Cheers

Ho do the wyse winterm s50 worck? and ho do i, or can i use the?

Hello,

There is documentation available for free from the wyse website on the knowledgebase. This will detail the full usage of the S50.

It can be used as a local web terminal, or linked to an external server, via RDP (terminal services) or ICA (citrix).

The admin guide (from wyse.com) will help you figure this out :)

Howto add a network printer on Wyse winterm S30 terminal?

The S30 terminal has the CE 5.0 operating system loaded as default. So you are limited by the operating system and not the hardware when it comes to network printing.

Here is a extract of the release notes for Windows CE 5.0:

"In Windows CE, TCP/IP supports network printing through the Server Message Block (SMB) protocol. It does not provide the Windows Line Printer Remote (LPR) Spooler. However, independent software vendors (ISVs) and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) can add this support."

In short, you need a 3rd party software program or a (SMB) printer server setup to setup network printing on the S30 terminal..

Wyse also have add-on software to help, if you have CE 5.0 loaded then try the "Thinprint" add-on supplied as a free download by them.
Download Link:
http://www.wyse.com/supportdownload/3series/Addon_ThinPrint_B0010.exe

I haven't tried this, so let me know if it works.

3350 power connector specs

The Pin Assignment is as follows:
Pin 1,4: +5V
Pin 2,3: not connected
Shield: Ground
The AC Adaptor is specified as 5V , 4Ampere. Actually the unit draws around 2-3 Amperes.
/------\
/ 3 1 \o
\ 4 2 /
\------/
This "Image" shows the pins, when you look onto the jack at the back side of the terminal, with the terminal standing upright. The label = 5V is located left of the jack

Winterm model #3350SE shuts down randomly

perhaps over heating problem?
These things are convection based cooling. The bottom and top both need to be very clear of obstacles. I seen one in use at an office, and the person had it sitting next to file organiser, she continually placed files on the top of the wyse "because she could". It took a week of constant shutoffs for it to sink in that it needed to be clear of stuff.
