Make sure you remove the print head protective tape. Also try doing a head cleaning and cartridge alignment page. If it still does not print check the cartridge well, you will see a assortment of copper pint that contact the circuit tracing on the print head, with the printer off get some achohol and a Q-tip and clean the pins there may be ink residue on them.

I just installed a new color cartridge in my 8650 Lexmark printer. The ink cartridge acts as if it is empty. Printer keeps telling me to align cargridge. Worked perfectly before the new ink installed. Not...

  1. On your computer, go to "Start," "Programs," "Lexmark Series." Click "Lexmark Control Program."
  2. Step 2 Select the "Cartridges" tab. Click "Change Cartridges." The Change Cartridges screen appears, displaying the animated instructions for installing or changing cartridges. When you have finished viewing the animation, click the "Finished" button.
  3. Step 3 Remove the tape covering the print head of the new print cartridge. Insert the new print cartridge as shown in the animation.
  4. Step 4 When the "Choose Cartridges" screen appears, select the cartridge(s) you installed in your printer from the list boxes. Click the appropriate box to reset the ink levels to full. Click "OK."
  5. Step 5 The Automatic Alignment screen appears. Click "Align" to align the print cartridges for best print quality. The printer prints a page with a bi-directional alignment pattern. On the printed test page, locate the number that comes closest to forming a straight line under the bi-directional alignment pattern. Enter that number as the bi-directional alignment setting in the Alignment Cartridge dialog box. Click "OK."

My printer wnt work i boght new ink but it wont print

Hi

whenever you put new ink cartridges, your printer prints an alignment sheet
if your printer isn't printing,
one of the concern could be that it didn't print the alignment, uninstall the cartridges and put them back again.

also try printing an alignment sheet using the printer driver located in the control panel, printers and faxes
once you go into the properties and click on the device settings and click on service this device you will get option to print alignment sheet
this should work

Changed ink cartridges cannot print alignment page, out of ink

You need to reset the ink level before the printer can print further, to do these please follow the following step:
1) Goto the Lexmark Solution Center application.
2) Press button Maintenance>Install a new print cartridge, follow the instruction on screen. U may then have your new full ink level. Note: u only can reset to full level, cannot customize the level by your own.
Then try again with printing alignment task.
Hope this help.

How do I change the ink cartridge on lexmark x3480

Hi,
Please use lexmark solution center... here it is:
To install a cartridge using the Solution Center:
  1. Make sure the printer is switched on, the old cartridges are still in the printer, and the cartridge cover is closed.
  2. Click on Start, Programs (XP: All Programs), Lexmark <Printer Name>, Lexmark <Printer Name> Solution Center.
  3. When the Solution Center screen appears, click on the Maintenance button on the left-hand side. (This button is the third from the top and bears a picture of ink drops.)
  4. When you see the Install or obtain a New Cartridge option, click on it once. A pop-up displays a brief description of how to physically remove an old cartridge and install a new one.
  5. Follow these instructions and click Next. The software will prompt you to confirm whether the cartridges are new or old.
  6. For the new cartridge you just inserted, select No, it's new. Important: Make sure the setting for any old cartridge stays on Yes, It is old.
  7. Once your selections have been made, click OK. The program will want to run the alignment for any new cartridges you installed. This applies whether you changed one or both cartridges (in the case of printers that can hold two cartridges). An alignment screen with a red and white bull's eye will appear.
  8. Make sure the cartridge cover is closed and that there is paper in the printer.
  9. Then click the Print button on the alignment screen. A sheet of paper will print from your printer with a series of arrows and numbers on it, with one set of solid bars above them. You should see four groups of lines, unless you have a single cartridge. If you have a single cartridge, you will only have one set of lines.
  10. In each group, locate the arrow that looks the most solid. It may help to circle the number under each arrow you choose as you go along.
  11. On your screen, you will see an area where you can enter the alignment values. When you have identified all the numbers, select those same numbers for each group on your screen, using the up and down arrows next to each value for A, B, C, and D (or A if you have only one cartridge).
  12. When all the numbers have been changed to reflect the chosen numbers on the printed alignment page, click OK. The cartridge installation procedure is complete.
  13. You can now exit from the Solution Center.
Thank you......

Ink Cartridge Alignment

On alignment sheet, do you see a line of yellow blocks?
And on next line do you see alternate block and yellow blocks?

(Without these, alignment fails)

If not, change the colour cartridge, re-print the page and repeat alignment.

Good luck...

Change all ink message

Your Lexmark cartridges may be like my HP ones--they have a chip that the machine reads so they cannot be reused without doing some tricks to fool the printer.

My HP remembers the last 2 or 3 cartridges and also will not use ones that have passed the expiration date that is stamped on the cartridge. I'll tell you what worked for my HP.

Check the date on your ink cartridge.  I bet it has expired. If you put in a "new"cartridge but it is even an HP one with an older date, it may not work.
I had my printer stop in the middle of a print job.  It was printing fine and suddenly would not print.  So I refilled the cartridge with an ink kit I had on hand and reinserted it--no go!  Then I opened a remanufactured cartridge I had bought some time ago and inserted it.  No go, despite the fact I could see ink coming from the jets.  I finally gave up and bought a new HP ink cartridge, and it worked just fine.  But it bugged me why the new one would work and the other two that seemed just fine would not.

Later I learned that HP has a chip that reads the expiration date on the cartridges and that is what keeps those old ones from printing.  I found one trick of setting my date on my computer back to a year earlier than the exp date on the cartridge.  I saw the date on the remanufactured one I had tried earlier was 2005, so I set my computer date to today date but year 2004.  After forcing me to do print alignments several times and take the remanufactured cartridge out and put it back, I got it to print just fine.  And that 2005 cartridge that would not work earlier is what I am printing with right now.
Be advised, though, if you try the date setback, that HP printer will buck and try every way to not let you use that old cartridge.  You must say no to reflashing if HP tries to pull that on you.  And you will take out and put back that same cartridge multiple times and keep printing alignment sheets 3 or 4 times before you are successful.  But, if you persist, you can get it to work.
