Audio problem in our Sony TRV38 handycam..Please help!
Lately when we record with our Sony TRV38 camcorder, the picture records as usual, but when we playback, the only sound we can here is a sort of a steady disturbance sound (sort of like when the radio is not set on the correct frequency or when there is a very voluminous waterfall :)). This disturbance sound goes up or down if we increase/decrease the volume. We cannot hear the voices/sound that we recorded. I hope someone can suggest a solution. We have tried new miniDVs, but that does not work. We faced this problem some time back too but it went away on its own. Its back now, and no getting resolved.

I am not sure if you can use an external microphone on that model (check your owners manual) but that would be the first thing to try. If it records OK using an external mike, then the problem is with the internal microphone.

Check the following link. Call them and explain the symptoms and they
should send shipping label to you so you can send the camcorder in for
repair. I had my TRV38 repaired in about 2 weeks. Good luck.
I had a similar problem with my Sony 14E in that it would not record at all - sound or pictures. Prior to that I had the lines indicating head cleaning necessary. I did this, and still nothing. I then did the following which you might try.
1. Clean the heads (I did it about 3 times in the space of a couple of hours).
2. Leave the camera tape section open (with or without the tape in) for a couple of hours and the camera in a WARM PLACE. I had condensation message prior to my problems too.
3. Put in a recorded tape and attempt to view it. Immediately I had the "dirty" lines for a few seconds then it played the recording.
AT THAT STAGE I TRIED TO RECORD - NOTHING.
Repeat Steps 1 - 3 because this seems to be about dirt and cold.
4. When step 3 is reached again! try to record. Eventually this worked for me.
I hope this helps and works for you.
I also have a SONY 460x Handycam Vision CCD-TRV68 NTSC video Hi8 Steady Shot not able to record a picture but will record audio, playback is the same. Unfortunatly this occured after warranty was out. Seems like this might have been a manufactors defect.
When i connected DCR-HC40 to my Laptop to download the pictures from Handycam,i cannot download the pictures.IN my laptop i have a Vista Software but it is not supporting picture package 1.0 version, can u give me solution for this how to download the software for Vista
first, verify your taped video is ok by doing this: connect your audio out RCA jacks to a cable to the input of a stereo. now play it. if audio ok, then problem somewhere from audio amp section to speaker on SONY.
