It seems like a motherboard issue, after all you have done. you may need to replace the motherboard since it should boot up to the external drive if the issue is the hard drive alone.

I have problems with my asus p4c800 mothterboard, i can not boot in dos mode with a bootable usb stick made with win98 kit (on ather pc's my stick does well), i can not install win xp from cd, my...

No your motherboard is doing just fine. you cannot install OS to your hard disk from another computer that don't have the same spects like yours, The program won't initialize properly, or like what you said it would freeze. The only way fro you to be able to install an OS to your computer is to buy an external usb cd/dvd. If you have one, then we can proceed, enter the bios setup by pressing the delete or f2 key. Then set your settings from boot option ( primary boot ) select or change it by pressing Pg Up or Pg Dn to boot from a usb cd/dvd rom press f10 to save your setting or select save and exit settings. Then press y and press enter. From there your system will automatically boot starting your OS installation setup. Have a nice day friend and i hope this would solve your problem.

Starting up i get PXE-E61 media test failure some people tell me its the hard drive some say the cddrve others say it could be trying to boot from a LAN

PXe Boot is used by the computer to boot to a network DOS-type environment. If you are receiving a PXe failure message on bootup check that your PC is set to boot from the CD Rom, Floppy, and Hard Drive BEFORE network or other boot device.

That's where you need to check to get solution to your problem, if not... try these

1. your settings in your bios
2. faulty cable/wire to your media device (hard drive, cd/dvd rom, etc)
3. The cmos battery (which indirectly points to your bios settings)

Hope this helps!

I am trying to reinstall operating system but do not read the dvd's after creating the partition

There are things we need to isolate.

Try first to test the DVD ROM using a Drivers Utility CD came with your computer.

Try booting to this CD to check if the DVD ROM still works.

Try to run but not install the OSCD to a different computer, just to check if the OSCD is readable.

If your DVDROM reads media try again the installation of OS booting to DVD ROM thru F12.
But before that I would like to know if your laptop has more than 1GB RAM? If yes try installing OS again with 1GB RAM installed. You need to remove the other RAM.

Thanks!

Hello! Here is my problem; I have Gateway MX6426 laptop and CD drive went off. When I try to install Windows XP from external CD drive some problems occurred. I put CD in ext.CD drive, run clean...

Press F1, ie for Gateway to enter Bios settings.
Go to your BIOS MENU,

From "Boot options" set 1st boot to "removable drives" save the setting, ie if you are using an external CD/DVD or USB flash drive. If you are using an external CD/DVD Rom, ensure that the power supply to the external CD/DVD Rom drive is sufficient.

Try and reinstall the Operating System again.

Hope it helps, and good luck.

We are facing booting problem whenever a new start is done. it takes several starts to boot the system

The problem is the first booting device should be hard disk and second should be cd/dvd rom. There must be some bootable cd/dvd in your cd/dvd rom. try removing and check again. Or the OS must have been corrupted. Try backup your data's and try formatting it and install a new OS. The problem should be solved then
