I have been having trouble with the screen image moving to the right so that there is about a 2" bar of black in the left margin of the screen. I went to my control panel and adjusted the screen resolution to the highest setting my computer will allow, and now the screen is black in gives me an "out of frequency" message. I cannot get back into my desktop to readjust the screen resolution to a lower level - WHAT DO I DO NOW??? I cannot view anything!!!

You need to reboot into safe mode (hit F8 during boot up), then set the video to 640 x 480, then reboot into regular mode , then reset it again to the native resolution of this monitor, 1440 x 900 @60 Hz.
The monitor this old may also have capacitors problem, http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums

Post post back so it may also other people also..

How to set margins

after hitting the return key, the carrier goes all the way to the left margin. If you need the margin to move even more to the left, hit the margin rel key and backspace to the desired position and hit the mar left key. Same for the right margin, use the space bar to move the carrier all the way to the right margin and press the margin rel and move the carrier to the desired position and press the mar right key.

Unable to set margins

To set the Left margin:

1) Move the carrier ro the place you want to set the left margin by using [SPACE BAR] or [BACKSPACE]. If you need to move outside the current left margin, press [ALT]+[M REL (3)]

2) Press [ALT]+[L MAR(4)]. The left margin is now set.

To set the Right margin:

1) Move the carrier ro the place you want to set the right margin by using [SPACE BAR] or [BACKSPACE]. If you need to move outside the current right margin, press [ALT]+[M REL (3)]

2) Press [ALT]+[R MAR(5)]. The right margin is now set.

That is directly out of the manual. I will upload the manual to FixYa, and you will be able to view it from the ML-500 Typewriter's product page: http://www.fixya.com/support/p131634-brother_ml_500_typewriter
