Hello. Ballast in Sony is one of the most reliable parts, almost never goes bad. I assume you have TV unplugged from the wall outlet to reset error memory (not to mention that you have to do it anyway during ballast replacement). I hope you are using good quality lamp, because cheap substitute from E-Bay can cause same problem. Lamp and ballast works as duo and on-board diagnostic system is unable to separate them unless lamp is completely blown (in that case you will have steady "Lamp" LED blinking). You need to set TV up with back cover removed but lamp door attached (there is switch that prevent TV from working if lamp door is removed). You need to locate large 2-wire connector on ballast and make sure that it's getting about 330V DC from power supply board when you turning your TV on. If it's not there - you have power supply board problem. There should be fuse on it (not on the ballast board but power supply board - just trace those two thick wires where they coming from). That fuse could be blown by previous bad ballast shortage. Small connector on ballast have 5 pins. Some of them ground, one of them steady 5V and another trigger (turn on signal) 5V. Make sure all voltages are there. If there is no trigger 5V - you have problem with main board. In my experience 90% cases - it is very bad quality new lamp or something is just not connected (forgot to put plug all the way or something). Good luck! Russ.
You can unplug the tv for 1 minute and then plug it back in since you have a red light you know it is getting power, also don't plug it into a surge protector when trying this. If the tv still has a flashing red light a service center will need to repair the tv, replacing more than likely the power supply or small signal board.
Deflection/power supply board cost 196.00 - SSB 253.00 has tuner on it--------- power board has Flyback transfomer, Check this board capacitor cp150 2200uf 16 v if it is bad you have 2 more caps in same circuit that need to be replaced also 220uf 35v ,there is 3 caps all together cp150--,cp111 or114-- cp120 call UED for parts 1-800-648-6657
Why should you spend 800$ when the tech told you 350. And yes, do what he said to you. 350 is a good price for what involve this repair. If you want to replace by yourself the 2 boards...remember the eeprom is on the signal board and you have to redo all geometry and convergence adjustments. Even for an experienced tech this is a 3 hours job and you have to be very good.
Even if you buy the parts you may get sticker shock!!! Why did it need a power supply and another board. Will your set come on? I may be able to give you part numbers but you need to be specific about which other board you think you need such as X Y signal board or power supply Some single circuit boards for some sets are as high as 600 bucks hope not for you
HD61W66YX20 has a power supply module on the left, looking from the rear, part # 265324, go to mcm, tritronics, or union. They stock OEM RCA parts. Give them your complete model and they will give you the latest version of it. The fuse is on a small board in the back right area behind the signal board. Where the AC cord goes! Hope this helps.
the parts are the convergence power supply and convegence amplifier board. two circit boards that are over the main cuircit board. I dont find there too difficult to replace. i believe union electronics carries those. always be carefull in a television. there are voltages that will hurt you.
this could be a number of probs.
needs to be ck'd by a tv tech
can usually be repaired for a few hundred bucks
suggestions..audio ic,convergence ic,signal board or power module..note these parts are pricey so trouble shoot to correct part.
